The Journey There- Saturday
Food,
good? We all brought our own food, which was
mainly raisin bread (Bon Jour loaves). After hungrily devoured the bread,
some of us thought that we could have a change of food... if only we could.
The train attendant came to our rescue, but she only had nasi lemak at
10 ringgits a box (!). Still Yaoshan and I tried. Hmm? Didn't taste too
good (regret having spent that money). I didn't manage to finish mine-
Yaoshan did. The complementary coffee was okay, though. Whew... Now dinner
was good- because around evening, a local came on board to hawker real
nasi lemak, curry and sardine puffs. Yum!
![]() A
quiet surprise One extraordinary site
that greeted us was that of the Orient Express train. It was sometime between
evening and night, when some of us were feeling quite pleasant from the
dinner, that a beautiful mahogany train (was it really mahogany?) train
slide quietly and slowly past ours. It past us on our left, and althought
it was getting quite dark, we could see the interiors, being lit up by
soft yellow light. It was furnished with plush seats and tables for four
(the kind you dine on). It wasn't too hard imagining a magnificent candlelight
dinner there. I forgot whether I gaped at the sight or not.
