I must choose the best 10 of anime and comic news in 1998 in Japan.
For example, in 1998, TV-anime type "Devilman Lady" "Generator Gawl" "Jikutenshou Nazca" "Nuku Nuku" "Legend of Basara" "Magical Stage, Fancy LaLa" "Princess Nine" "Weiss Kreuz" "Silent Moebius" "Lost Universe" "Orphen" "GASARAKI" and "Mamotte Shugogetten" were broadcast. However these titles caused no booms.
Most of these titles ended as self-satisfaction.
In this anime column, I chose my best 10 as follows;

1. Mr. Yukawa from CSK
   Sega wanted to release new videogame client "Dreamcast." Mr. Hidekazu Yukawa was sent by CSK to Sega as No.2 of Sega. Then he worked as the Executive Director (Japaense: Senmu). He began a negative campaign on TV.
   Thereafter CSK began to control ADO Electric managing T-ZONE MINAMI. Yukawa obtained 100,000 stocks of ADO Electric.
   Now "Dreamcast" was released on 11/27/98. Sega provided 500,000 sets of Dreamcast. But about 400,000 sets were bought by dirty unofficial brokers to boost up the market price.
   100,000 sets were obtained by commoner consumers. A lot of commoners blamed Yukawa. He was relegated to a Managing Director (Japanese: Joumu). But he is still No. 2 of Sega. He still regards himself as Vice-President of Sega.
2. Nakoruru Association appeared at Comic Market
   In 1997, Andoromeda formed an assocation on Nakoruru. Several webmasters that like Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown gathered at the assocation. I also joined the assocation. Nakoruru Assocation took part in Comic Market. In this summer, it published the first Doujin-shi comic book. In this winter, it published the second Doujin-shi comic book.
   By the way, this year SNK held several events for Nakoruru and Rimururu. I also saw those events.
3. Dr.FangLang Met Ms Yun Kouga, a cartoonist
   Yun Kouga is a famous cartoonist. She mainly draws cartoons for girls. But she draws several titles for young males, for example, "Yousei Jiken (Fairy Affair)."
   Dr.FangLang met her and was given her autograph by her on 12/26/98 at her private exhibition for "Comic Crimson" in Matsudo Isetan, a department store, Matsudo city.
   By the way, this May, Dr.FangLang saw Ms Mitsue Aoki, a cartoonist, at her private exhibition.
4. Director Hideaki Anno started his new work "Kare-Kano"
   TV-Tokyo began to broadcast TV-anime type "Kareshi Kanojo No Jijou" in this October.
   It is the latest work made by GAiNAX and Director Hideaki Anno.
   It soon got popular. A lot of pages were made in Japan. But its rating was 5 percents.
   By the way, in the anime, three voice actresses got popular.
   First, Ms Atsuko Enomoto played the role of the heroine, Yukino Miyazawa. She has a half-official homepage. I saw her messages for her fans. I obtained her autograph this year. I saw her in Tokyo Game Show this October.
   Second, Ms Maria Yamamoto played the role of Kano Miyazawa, Yukino's youngest sister. Maria Yamamoto is 17 years old. I saw her in Tokyo Game Show this October. Third, Ms Yukari Fukui played the role of Rika Sena, a friend of Tsubasa Shibahime. Yukari Fukui is an idol.
5. Cinema-type Martian Successor Nadesico was released
   In the cinema, Nergal fought against "Crimson Group".
   By the way, Producer Toshimichi Outsuki from King Records and Dirctor Yasuo Satou made a cinema "Nadesico the movie, The prince of darkness."
   The exciting movie, which I enjoyed, was not so popular in Japan.
   Kadokawa Shoten held several events for the movie. Ms Houko Kuwashima appeared at most of those events. But Kuwashima had her few turns.
   As you know, Ms Kuwashima played the role of Yurika Misumaru. Ms Omi Minami played the role of Ruri Hoshino. In the cinema, Omi Minami played the main role. Ruri Hoshino grew up there.
   Most of Ruri fans like little girls and do not like adult females.
   Perhaps they did not like grown up Ruri Hoshino.
   By the way, I saw several events of the cinema this year. Kia Asamiya drew comic-type Nadesico on Kadokawa's Monthly Sounen Ace. What? In the comic type Nadesico, Nadesico was related with "Silent Moebius." Therefore maybe "Silent Moebius" will be completed in a happy end.
6. Sega released a videogame title "Sakura Wars 2"
   In the title, Ms Chisa Yokoyama plays the role of Ms Sakura Shinguji, the heroine.
   Sega promoted the title using TV commercial films. In the films, Ms Chisa Yokomaya appeared this April. She did masker as Sakura Shinguji in the commercial film.
   In Japan, most of voice actors usually hide their own faces. This year, several popular voice actresses appeared at TV programs.
   By the way, I am a member of her offcial fan club "Club Chissa."
7. TV-anime type "Ah! My Goddess" Started
   This April, Satellite Broadcast Channel "WOWOW" started TV-anime type "Ah! My Goddess." For a while, Ms Akemi Okamura played the role of Belldandy. After Ms Kikuko Inoue had a baby, she began to play the role of Belldandy again.
   By the way, WOWOW and NHK Broadcast Satellite channels are with charge. Of course, I cannot see them. I had to obtain anime videotapes.
8. Cyber Team in Akihabara was broadcast
   There are a lot of high school students that led a dissipated life.
   They found EVA and UTENA in order to confine themselves to their world. This time such students found Cyber Team in Akihabara in order to protect their self-centered world.
   A lot of fan sites and a lot of erotic Doujin-shi comic books were made this year. Most of them were wild and dissipated. I do not like such activities.
9. Card Captor Sakura was broadcast
   NHK Broadcast Satellite channel-2 started Card Captor Sakura. In the anime, Mr. Tomokazu Seki, Ms Megumi Ogata, Ms Junko Iwao, Ms Emi Shinohara, Ms Yukana Nogami, Ms Tomoko Kumai, Ms Aya Hisakawa, and Ms Sakura Tange played the roles.
   Especially Sakura Tange and Aya Hisakawa appeared in special programs of the anime as real performance.
   Aya Hisakawa spoke Osaka dialect in the anime. She was born at Kishiwada city, Osaka. She is good at Osaka dialect. Her good Osaka dialect made her popular again. (She formerly played the role of Sailor Mercury. Then she got popular.)
10. Perfect Blue and Spriggan
    Katsuhiro Outomo's team made two anime cinemas. They were excellent. But they were not popular. New technologies and techniques made new effects of the cinemas. But most of anime fans were interested in the stories.
