Can you believe that I finally updated this Page? I think I am in serious trouble with all of you guys ... Sumimasen! I know I haven't updated this page forever ... but I do have a legitimate reason! I have been job hunting for a while and last Friday, I found a job!!! I start tomorrow, so I figured I'd better update the page before I start in case I don't have time to do it later. So after a two month hiatus, I am Back!!! What else have I been up to? I went to Japan at the end of July and came home toting lots of Kenshin memorabilia and also the OVAs which I bought second hand for 3000 yen a piece. I am now missing the 3rd OVA (because they were out of stock at Animate) and am waiting for a friend to buy it for me! Japan was SO FUN!!! So much shopping and so much japanese food! I love japanese food, don't you? Maybe later I will put up some pics of me and my friends Karen and Yasuki in Japan. What's New This Update!!! ***So much Stuff (see below) Lots of New Translations and Scans too*** Contrary to popular belief, Act 252 is not the last Act of RK *whew*. There should be maybe 3-4 more acts before the Finale. Tankouban 27 is coming out 7th September or thereabouts. I will keep you posted. Oh, before I sign off (to clean my room believe it or not) take a look at this fab fanart of Enishi by Richard here. I think its awesome! Ja-Ne!!! PS. I know I have mail to reply to, and invites to join rings and to swap links ... I'll get to it soon!!! (I hope *gulp*) What's New this Update!!! (1) The New Tankouban will be out next week, 2nd July 1999 (2) The translation of Act 243 has been added (3) There isn't a translation of Act 244 yet, but I have posted some comments from Rich from the SASSE ML and ... there is also something special on this page from Angie (also from the SASSE ML), so please take a look!!! (4) Act 245 is up, thanks to Hiko Any thoughts? please send them here. Wow! Its been a while since the last update! (Again!) There's a few updates this week but more to come!!! Last week's Jump(issue #29) was the Special (5th) Anniversary Issue of Rurouni Kenshin ... this means that Rurouni Kenshin was in colour art last week!!! So, if you haven't gotten Last week's Jump I suggest you do so quickly before they are all gone!!! *And off goes the Administrator to the local Japanese Bookstore* What's New!!! Acts 241, 242 and 243 have now been added!!! Wow! Its been a while since the last update! There's gonna be a lot of updates this week!!! The Bad News Don't know if you know already ... the SASS mailing list is going to be no more at the end of this month!!! I quote "The interests of the group that runs the ML have gone on to other projects and given the expense and hassle of running SASS, the decision was made to close it." Aku, Soku, Zan! Indeed. The Anime-Doushi will be missed. The Good News Ryuuen no Miko has created a for those addicted to Kenshin (including me, so I've signed up already) the SASSE The Bad Boys of Rurouni Kenshin (i.e. Saito, Aoshi, Shishio, Soujiro ... Enishi) Kudos to this wonderful being!!! More Good News Acts 238, 239 and 240 have now been added!!! (Some might say 'Finally!' in an exasperated sort of tone) Hey Everybody!!! How are you all doing? The Bad News I just wanted to let you all know that as there was a double issue last week, there is no new Ruroken Chapter this week ... kind of defeats the purpose of having a double issue in the first place, doesn't it? *shrug* So please visit this site near the end of next week ... hopefully, I will have managed to get a summary by then!!! PS. I understand the some people could see the scans of Act 237 but some couldn't (I hope you managed to download them instead) - I speculate that people who used IE4 (like me) could see them, but people who used Netscape couldn't. Next time I will save the scans as jpeg files instead of bmp files so this problem won't (hopefully) occur again!!! O-GenkiDesuKa? Oh, lots of new stuff this week! newest Jump chapter with scans« » Results of the "Top Five Ruroken Villains" (from Jump Weekly) revealed here« ***Spoilers - My Comments*** I hate to say it, but it seems that Watsuki-Sensei is losing his intial enthusiasm for Ruroken. Even though he had a week off, nothing much happened in this week's Act, details are sadly lacking in his artwork and the story is getting a little too predictable for my liking. Look how one-dimensional the villians are now (see the bodyguards/henchmen in the current chapter) - I think they must be quadruplets!!! And who will doubt the outcome of the next battle? At least in the last filler - the Divine Medicine - they had different ninjas with different skills running around (though the outcome was still predictable). Oh, and Heishin looks like the chinese guy who looks like Bruce Lee from Streetfighter. And our Kenshin has snapped (albeit temporarily when he screams out for Enishi to appear) - its pseudo battousai to the rescue!!! Our Kenshin didn't like to fight and would never have demanded to get into a fight, neh? The battousai was cool!!! Psuedo battousai runs out of steam after a bit. I'm sure there is a school of thought that thinks that he's justified to go wacko because its Kaoru (the love of his life) who he is going to save. But what I want to know is, didn't Kaoru say during her fight with Kamatari that the essence of the Kamiya Kasshin Technique was to fight with everything they've got in self defence? And she's a sensei in her own right so why couldn't she at least try to escape by wacking Enishi over the head with the bundle he gave her? And Enishi (who by the way I think is very very very cool in his beautifully suppressed way - almost as cool as hothead volcano Sano) is just really misguided - Tomoe is going to come to him and tell him not to kill Battousai, I think. So let's see if this villian is going to get killed off. I know some people on the SASS mailing list think that if Enishi dies, he'll be reunited with his beloved sister but ... there's a problem, they said ... because he's definitely going to hell!!! And what makes people so sure Tomoe wasn't in hell already having a party with Shishio? Or conversely, if Enishi redeems himself maybe he's going to wind up in heaven. If I didn't like Enishi so much I would have said Kaoru and him make a good couple ... really!!! (please don't hit me) Hope I didn't offend anyone with my drivel. It's been ages since I wrote such a long commentry. So to cut a long story short I think Ruroken is really going to finish after the current story arc. Maybe its time to start watching re-runs. That's it from me! See you all next week!!! Hey there!!! Hope everyone had a good week - mine was fairly average, but you guys wouldn't want to hear about it, eh? For those who don't know, there isn't going to be a new Act this week ... apparantly Watsuki sensei is having a one week break. This means that we are going to get a double issue next week along with a one shot manga called "NEKOMAJIN ga iru" and "Decadence". Also we get double colour dosage next week by way of an opening color page and a fold-out poster too. So I'll have to go on my weekly pilgrimage to the comic store next Thursday night. Apparently last week's Jump no.20 had a couple of pics of a young Enishi and the cover artwork to OVA No.3 as well and that's something I'll get tomorrow, if they still have it in stock *groan* (I wish I knew about this sooner). I don't know about you guys, but my room is a pigsty, and the Weekly Jumps just take up so much room its not funny and I gave up after a couple of volumes ... though I don't suppose its an excuse for not keeping track of these things * ... of course, keeping up with RK News would be much easier if I knew some japanese. NOTE:- Thanks to Wuken for all the news! I'm glad someone out there is paying attention!!! ABOUT THE GUESS Wow, I got so many guesses to my question on my choice pics from the Rurouni Kenshin's OVA Illustration Book page!!! So many that I'm scared to say thanks individually, in case I miss someone out (like Megumi last week - hotoni sumi masen)!!! But you know what?!? you guys all got it wrong *snicker* most people guessed Kenshin and Kaoru, people that I corresponded on a regular basis with guessed Kenshin and Sano (because I have a bit of a Sano fixation) but it was still wrong!!! That's because no one knew what a sentimental gurl I am (even my boyfriend guessed wrong so there you go, don't feel bad) and the pic that brought a big lump to my throat was the Oniwabanshuu one - the one that was taken in happier and more idyllic times, the one yellowed by age ... and there, you've made me all teary again *sniff* ... Thanks for trying!!! Its nice to know so many people actually take me seriously!!! Chotto! How is everyone doing? Some of you may know that I was away to Malaysia over the holidays and that's why the page wasn't updated for a few weeks!?! I know, I know, excuses, excuses ... If anyone is interested, please go here for a pic of yours truly and her boyfriend holidaying in Club Med Cherating in Malaysia!!! What's New this Week! Acts 234, 235 and 236 have been added!!! My Comment As far as updates go, the whole situation is quite dismal. There is a real lack of detailed translations out there, and believe me, you're not the only ones that are frustrated!!! It spoils the whole Kenshin- (or should that be Sano- *hee*) experience somewhat. Oh well, I will keep looking around - that's all I can do at this stage unless I take a crash course in japanese or something. So hontoni sumi masen to all those out there who were looking for something more substantial! And from the look of things, the Jinchuu Arc might be over sooner than I thought =( Previous Translations I got a few emails from people who wanted to get translations for acts not covered in this site (i.e. prior to Act 207) and I've now added two new links just for this purpose below. Be sure to check them out, I thought these sites were superb!!! Hmmmm I also got a few queries about what I was going to do with the page ... and to tell you the truth, I do have a lot of ideas, but unfortunately not enough time to carry them all out ... in fact, I have another webpage (which is empty) that I was going to use to do something unrelated to Jump Updates but related to Kenshin (of course) ... and because I haven't found the time (and so on and so forth), I've been putting it off. Tell you what though, since the fansubs are no longer being distributed, I was thinking about writing summaries of the last few anime arcs (I gather a lot of you have missed it) and although they aren't really great (like the Kyoto arc) they do suffice in relieving Kenshin withdrawal symptoms somewhat. OH, I ALMOST FORGOT!!! Anyone who has visited my choice pics from the Rurouni Kenshin's OVA Illustration Book will no doubt be aware that I asked you guys to try and guess my fave pic ... but no-one has managed to guess it yet so ... give it another go!!! I was exhilarated a couple of weeks back because I had just gotten my RK tapes from the Ever Wonderful Shinsen Gumi ... and now I suppose everyone is saying that I was gloating because ... RK fansubs are now no more! *Aghast* CONFESSIONS This web page administrator has a confession to make. I used to watch cantonese dubbed anime and thought that it was heaven. Of course, chinese subtitled anime was always available but as I am nearly illiterate in Chinese that really wasn't much of an option. So along comes RK ... and I was looking at the Rurouni Kenshin Archive and was intrigued by Kirsten-san's musing on the subject and consequently followed the link to the Shinsen Gumi. (Of course, the web page owner had always maintained to me that anime in its original form was the best though the baka-girl that I was never believed her *whops herself on the head*) Then I went to California last October and thought ... what the heck! I am going to buy ALL the tapes available so I toddled down to the Post Office in Macy's on Union Square and the rest was history. I was hooked! And now, cruel world, ... RK fansubs are no more. I am not even going to say that we are probably NEVER going to get to see the 'Lost'/Mystery Episode nor are we EVER going to get to see the OVAs ... *expletives* If we hang in there ... maybe ... just maybe ... we might get through this... *the Administrator collapses from a speech ten times more melodramatic than Act 224* ACT 225 I do apologise for this late update but after working out with my trainer yesterday at the gym I was in no shape at all to type.
