Here are some facts for you.
Physical exercise isn't just walking up and down the stairs from a day to day basis, it is a result of regular physical activity. This means for all you "couch potatoes" PROPER exercise and dieting.
General Fitness is broken down into certain physical categories;
Agility - Change of direction speed and the ability to do it effieciently.
Body Compsition - The percentage of body fat we have.
Cardiovascular endurance - Exercise that consists of moderate intensity over a long period of time.
Muscular strength & Endurance - The Ability to perform repetitive muscular contractions against some resistance for an extended period of time.
Now in order to achieve general fitness a routine has to be made.
For Example, yoga is a form of exercise which helps increase your agility. Another example is using an agility ladder.

Body Composition is also essential and will be explained via Dieting.
Cardio exercising is also essential as it helps to strengthen ou cardio vascular system (A HEALTHY HEART). Basketball, football, jogging and cross country are a number of examples which can help improve you cardiovascular abilities. As long as the exercise consists of running and sweating, its good for the heart.
CAUTION don't over exert yourself. No one expects you to be the next DWAIN CHAMBERS! Pace yourself, start exercising at a level you can handle, do push as hard as you can but remember to alway re-hydrate yourself, and take short breaks between each intervals of your workout.
OK. For the lads we all dream of having a body that's rippled, well defined and toned so lets get to the good stuff.
Muscular strength and endurance are devided into two sections;
-Endurance
-Strength
if your looking for more power and much more bigger body, then Resistance training is what you need. From 3-4 days a week regular one to two hour sessions of weight training should be more than enough. REMEMBER to start off light and work your way up slowly, for if you don't you mayrisk permanent damge to your muscles (lets be honest we are all here to get healthy NOT injury prone).
Muscular Endurance is more aimed at the endurance of the individual. This is more geared to the Aerobic side of exercise.
