The King of Swords reveals the Coyote
Acrylic on board.
Important message from the artiste..........
Before I begin to tell you about this painting I want you to know that I have had real problems trying to get a clear image of it onto the computer....
but I am working on it..
In the meantime.....this is a general view.....in real-life the painting is approx.1 metre square.....and has a lot of detail and depth. It irks me to give you second best because as you know I am a perfectionist. So my humble apologies......
This painting depicts a moment in time when I was given a gift , but one that had I known where it would lead me I would gladly have refused.  A mirror was held up that showed me myself from an entirely objective position. My safe vision of myself was shattered and replaced with a painful reality. This precious item was given to me by Miguel, a person of great power. I call him The King of Swords, and how our paths crossed is magic in itself.  But too complex to go into here. The King of Swords is a Master in the world of magic, he challenges all....he wears many masks but I am sure he never forgets who he is. They say that when the pupil is ready the teacher will come. Mine arrived when I didn't even know I needed one and cut through my world to reveal the energy at play behind me.. This mans detachment makes him a great teacher. I learnt some pretty amazing things about myself....about my limitations and about my strengths, I also faced a few fears.....and laughed in the face of my own demons. I had moments of excitement and moments of deep anguish. I also discovered how real power works.....
Behind the King there is a high wall.....it bears his signature, or one of them. The wall is his means of stopping the outside world disturbing his domain.  I have had to gather as many pieces as I could to find even a glimmer of how to represent him,  along with my own perceptions. Since the Coyote was revealed my life has taken an opposite course and has cost friendships. I stepped off the path I was on and found another, on which I journey with a new persona ( scarey at times ) I don't know where it will lead but I walk it knowing I venture there with my own truth.
The Coyote represents the Native American Animal Totem  that has been with me since my birth......unaknowledged or named but there all the same. The Coyote is  referred to as The Trickster.....he wears a mask .......often playing the fool, joking and laughing when his pain lies just below the surface. He would rather make a complete fool of himself than let others see his pain. The person he tricks the most is usually himself,  his blind faith in his abilities takes him into places that he eventually has to extricate himself from....often by using his sense of humour to charm his way out or his pure cunning.. He represents duality and the ability to see both sides of the picture. Light and dark, wisdom and folly, are all coyote traits. But always he is alone in his world. He expresses his pain, creatively:  many people with coyote medicine are artists or musicians.  ( I have discovered that ' coyote people' often recognise one another instantly and are comfortable in each others presence  without understanding why. ) Within the duality of his being is one who loves to socialise but wants to be alone, one who needs a companion but longs for freedom, his family is important to him but often he cannot be with them and he is one who can present a dark picture in the colours of the rainbow. The paradox of coyote medicine is not easy to live with, but if you are born with it you can never be free of it. You become the maker of your own lessons. To coyote all is sacred, yet nothing is sacred at all.
If you look into the painting you will see the coyote energy at work ( as it is in many of my other paintings )......here night and day appear together,  the action and the non-action, the teacher and the pupil.......an instant moment that holds a lifetime in its making..

So where to from here ? To my next painting of course.......yet another moment of magic.....it never ends for us coyote folk.
I dedicate this painting to The King of Swords. Thank you Miguel.
