STATUES & IDOLATRY |
||||||||||||
Catholics worship statues and saints. | ||||||||||||
There are untruths, and then there's this - biggest of lies and untruths. When you see the Statue of Liberty, do you worship it? How about George Washington? No, Catholics DO NOT worship statues or worship saints! The only one worthy of worship is God, and ONLY GOD! Statues are representations of something - reminders, and nothing more. You have a picture of your family on your desk but you don't worship it, you remember things because of it. Statues are not forbidden by God. As a matter of fact, God has commanded that statues be made on occasion. Here's a passage, an order from God to Moses; |

Numbers 21:8 - And the Lord said unto Moses, make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole; and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten when he looketh upon it, shall live. |

There's also the construction of the Ark of the Covenant. |

Exodus 25:18 - God said to Moses - And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat. And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look at one to another... |

The instance where God forbids statues is found in Exodus 32:8 when the people created the golden calf. This calf wasn't a reminder, its intention was to be a God. So, a statue is harmless if it's a representation, the harm comes when it becomes a God to be worshipped. |
