The Minor Arcana

The Minor Arcana tend more to the more mundane things in life. As opposed to the Major Arcana (Greater Secrets), the Minor Arcana are often referred to as the "Lesser Secrets".

Wands

Wands represent the element of fire. Wands are also indicative of all things that you do during the day to keep you busy, be it working at the office, home or the great outdoors. Wands are also about ideas, growth, ambition and expansion, original thought and the seeds through which life springs forth. Many Wands in a reading show that the "conditions" in which the Querant finds himself are based mainly in the realm of thought, or are in the first stages of development.

Wands cover the fire signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius and the characteristics attributed to them.

Wands are indicative of springtime, weeks in so far as "time" goes in tarot, and South.

Cups

Cups are of the water element, and represent emotions and feelings, desire, inner experience and spirit.

Cups are indicative of summer, and if next to a pentacle card, can show a time scale of "days" in a reading. Cups represent water signs, i.e. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

Swords

Swords are representative of the element of Air, and are associated with the ways of the mind, thought patterns, mental situations.

Pentacles

Coins or pentacles are representative of the element Earth. Earth covers the mundane material things of life, property, money, home and nature. Also manifestation, realization, proof and prosperity.

Pentacles are indicative of Autumn, or "years" in "time" questions in tarot.

Pentacles also cover the Earth signs of Taurus, Capricorn and Virgo and all the earthly attributes they have.
