Question Number One: "Have you read "The Robe", written by Lloyd C. Douglas, "Ben Hur" written by Lew Wallace, or "The Bronze Bow" written by Elizabeth Speare? If so, what was your opinion of them?" "Yes, I have read "Ben Hur" and "The Bronze Bow." I enjoyed the vibrant descriptions in "Ben Hur," and of course, the chariot race was quite suspensful. The middle of the book where Ben Hur wandered around and did some sight-seeing before the race dragged on a bit, but the end was very satisfying. "The Bronze Bow" was well-written and kept the interest. I liked how the title of the book was taken from the Psalms, and that Daniel, Joel and Thacia used the "bow of bronze" verse for their motto." - Allegra Weaver "I have read 'The Robe' which, in my opinion, is one of the most well-written books of all times.'The Bronze Bow' has been in my hands more than once and I have found the plot to be stimulating and the characters well sketched. The events leading up to the ending and the ending itself was a perfect tie up to the story." - Aubrey B. "I have not read the books, but I have seen the movies based on the first two books." - Elizabeth Roseberry Question Number Two: "In each book, who are some of your favorite characters? Why?" "Some of my favorite characters in "The Bronze Bow" were Leah, because I felt sorry for her, her Roman friend Marcus, who was kind to her, Joel, who seemed rather studious, and Thacia, because she was loyal. Daniel, I admired for his resolve and steadfastness but not for his curtness with his sister. I don't really have any favorite characters in 'Ben Hur'." - Allegra W. "My favorite characters in a book are usually not the main character. In 'The Robe' I admired Demetrius for his undying loyalty to Marcus, even when he was free to go his own way. I also admired Diana's courage and faith in the midst of her difficult life at the palace. "In 'The Bronze Bow' I enjoyed all of the main characters, but my heart expecially went out to Lea, the sister of Daniel. Her sweet character and complete trust combined with her helpless situation showed me what perfect faith really is. She sweetened the Bronze Bow and brought out the more delecate qualities in the harsh and rough atmosphere of dusty Israel." - Aubrey B. "One of my favorite characters was Lea. Lea taught Daniel to become more compasonate and unselfish towards others. - Noelle Blankenship Question Number Three: "Have you seen the movie "The Robe" or "Ben Hur"? What was your opinion of them?" "I've seen the movie Ben Hur and was a little disappointed since the characters were not how I'd pictured them from reading the book." - Allegra W. "I've seen Ben Hur and really enjoyed it. I thought the settings were amazing and the production well done. The movie "The Robe" really dissapointed me, although those who had not read the book but watched the movie seemed to enjoy it. It was so different from the book and the characters of the people were changed from their characters in the book." -Aubrey B. "As I said earlier, I have seen "Ben Hur", and "The Robe". They were unique and exciting!" - Elizabeth Roseberry Question Number Four: "Have you read any other books set in the Biblical time? If so, which ones?" "'Twice Freed', (a great book based on the book of Philemon) and "The Runaway" by Paticia St. John." - Allegra W. "'For The Temple', written by G. A. Henty, and 'The Big Fisherman' written by Lloyd C. Douglas." - Aubrey B. "No, but I have seen another movie set in Biblical time. It's called "Demetrius and the Gladiators". That's a neat movie! - Elizabeth Roseberry |
