The fast-aced sequel of The Good Master, this book is set in a more serious time. The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand takes the whole world by surprise. The Austrian Empire calls for men from its dominion, Hungary. All too soon Jansci must run the farm alone, with the help of seven massive, meek, and friendly giants, Russian prisoners of war. Throw in seven evacuated Berlin children, a prim judge's daughter, a young soldier's wife with her newborn baby - quite a menagerie! The war rages on in all its devastation for four years, and the question remains: Will the  "Good Master" ever come home again?
