| Open my eyes, that I may see This one and that one needing Thee; Hearts that are dumb, unsatisfied; Lives that are dark, for whom Christ died. Open my eyes in sympathy Clear into man's deep heart to see; Wise with thy wisdom to discern, And with thy heart of love to yearn. | Betty Scott Stam was a Christian missionary to China, along with her husband John. Communist soldiers martyred the young couple in 1934. Their only offenses: they were Christians and they preached God's Word. Their baby daughter, Helen, miraculously survived and was rescued. The Stam's missionary spirit and faith are best expressed in their own words: this poem that Betty wrote. |
