Sea Birds Clinch 2005 Title with 10 Straight Wins.
|
The Sea Birds wrapped up their second
MACCFL title with their Week 14
win over the Idiots, combined with the War Mongers loss to the Fisters.
The Sea Birds also won the 1997 title with a league record 15-2 mark.
That Week 14 win was also the Sea Birds' 10th straight, a streak which
ended the next week against the Israelites and was one shy of the
record.
The Sea Birds hold the record with 11 straight wins between 1997 and
1998.
All season long Shaun Alexander had been calling this a "team of
destiny", but owner Matt Dropsey would hear none of it. Until now.
"I'll admit, after that stretch of games between weeks 10 and 13 I may
finally agree with him." Dropsey said.
In Week 10 the Vipers tried a desperation 60 yard FG that fell short.
The Sea Birds held on to win 59-54.
In Week 11 Sam Gado was shut out on Monday night, preserving a 64-63
win over the Skid Marks.
In Week 12 Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison sparked a Dunces comeback
on Monday night that fell just short. The Sea Birds held on for a 75-73
win.
In Week 13 the Sea Birds trailed the Zeppelins 55-9 on Monday night,
but a record setting 60 point performance by the Seattle defense
secured the comeback.
The 2005 Sea Birds were anchored by MVP Shaun Alexander.
Alexander set a new RB record with 301 points, beating the previous
mark of 279 set by Terrell Davis
of the War Mongers in 1998.
