Carolyn Barshow is a Gallatin Literacy in Action Student and a volunteer teacher at University Settlement. She taught us how to work on the Internet and how to create our web pages. We learned to find information and resources from different web sites. Through the World Wide Web, we learned different countries' cultures and their history's. Through the Internet, we can share our ideas, stories, and good times with each other. It is a good way to improve our English and computer skills. With our teacher’s help, we created this website.

Monika was our head English teacher and taught us computer skills. She taught us how to use the Microsoft Word Program to type up our assignments and do our projects, as well as how to work on the Internet. Although she doesn’t teach us anymore, we still continue working on our site as she and Carolyn Barshow taught us before.
We are glad to get the recent information about Monika from Professor June Foley, “Monika has been promoted to the position of Coordinator of International services for both campuses of St. Joseph’s College, in Brooklyn and Patchogue, Long Island. She still teaches one ESL class a week, and this Spring 2004 semester it’s “ESL Listening and Speaking Workshop.” She’s looking forward to an upcoming business trip to several cities of her native country, Poland, including her hometown of Gdansk.”
Dan Kopf, Mollie Bruhn, Nicole Vengrove, Sarah Doroff and Taja Lindley are Gallatin Literacy in action students and volunteer teacher at University Settlement. We have eager and intelligent student teachers. They are friendly, patient and eager to teach us. They do excellent work. They always come prepared with materials and resource in class. They teach us English as a second language. We learn from them things such as: writing, grammar, reading, idioms and conversation. Through the conversation class we can improve our spoken English skills. We are happy to participate in this program. // Written by Wen Fei Liang
