Engine:
The engine and airframe had 1975 hours with no previous overhauls.  Since it had been sitting for over 5 years we were curious to see what toll the inactivity had taken.  As we took apart the engine, to our surprise, there was no real problems noted.  The engine overhaul consisted of taking it apart and bringing the parts to
Mattituck for inspection.  Mattituck found very little to complain about.  Several parts needed to be refinished, crank, cam, valves.  The cylinders were worn beyond limits.  We had the cylinders overhauled and purchase new pistons.  Other "wear" parts and hoses were replaced.  We got the parts back from Mattituck and reassembled the engine ourselves.  (Remember, my partner is an experienced A&P / IA who has done this many times before)  I must admit that reassembling the engine was a great experience and ended up being easier than I expected.

We replaced all engine controls and cowl flap controls.  We replaced the fuel and vacuum pump.  We added a
JPI Fuel-scan transducer and an electronic EGT gauge.   With the engine off, removing and servicing the nose strut was made easy. (easier)  The existing wire ties were brittle and we replaced all of them.  The engine and airframe cowl baffle tapes were replaced. With the engine off, we elected to replace the rubber engine mounts and the rubber cowl mounts.
