| Many people nowadays are buying crystals and using them for healing. They are good people and their intentions are good, and we know they genuinely believe that to buy crystals and to use them for healing is the right thing to do. What could be more worthy and good than healing people? Yet being in a room full of crystals is like being in a room full of fur coats, or ivory ornaments, sad evidence of an avoidable violation. We had held a rather romantic idea of some peace loving, caring people, ambling along a beach, picking up bits of driftwood, and the occasional lucky find, a crystal, and then selling the crystals. Of course the reality is nothing like that. The crystals in the shops are the product of huge ugly machinery, making huge ugly wounds in the Earth, and there is nothing caring or spiritual about this; like all other mining, it is primarily an exploitation of the Earth's resources in order to make a profit. Some people have tried to justify the mining of crystals to us by claiming that it is not as bad as other mining operations. Most mining operations are indeed damaging violations of the Earth, however only crystal mining, which is also a damaging violation, is being promoted, falsely, as spiritually enlightened and of healing potential. People who care about the Earth avoid supporting all damaging mining as much as possible. They would not thoughtlessly or frivolously buy gold or silver jewellery or ornaments, nor precious and semi-precious stones, nor indeed, anything made of any metal, or other products of mining, unless they are going to make full and proper use of them. We are always pleased when we hear that other people are aware of the damaging effects of mining, and are campaigning against other mining operations. We would love to have time to campaign against them as well. However, we speak out against the mining and use of crystals for 'spiritual development' and 'healing' precisely because we are successfully involved in the spiritual development and healing field, so we have the authority to speak out on this issue. Even if crystals genuinely had some healing properties, which they don't, everyone will have to agree with us that they are not necessary for healing. All over the world today, and through all of history, there have always been healings taking place without the use of crystals. Therefore the use of crystals cannot be considered essential to healing. As this is a fact, we ask you, for the Earth's sake, to choose a more planet-friendly healing method. Many people have spoken to us about their doubts that crystals could be of any use for healing, and told us they certainly never received any benefit from using them. They had felt it was their own fault they didn't benefit, that somehow they hadn't used the crystals properly. They were relieved when we told them it wasn't them at all, it is no wonder they didn't benefit because crystals do not have any healing powers. We know and teach that it is not the crystals that heal, but the person's belief in them, the actual healing power being the person's own, not the crystals, and by attributing the healing to the crystals, people are giving away their own power. Instead of helping them, giving away their power like this inhibits people's spiritual development. We practise and promote Spiritual Mastery, which is all about owning your own power, and not giving it away to a collection of pretty stones. Crystals do not help with your spiritual development in any way. They cannot improve your relationship with God, nor help you to understand your own divinity. Nor can you understand your own power and also believe in the power of crystals, these are incompatible. Crystals are not a renewable resource. Another popular healing system is aroma therapy. Because of our philosophy, we do not believe in this any more than we do in the healing power of crystals, however we consider it a lot less harmful, for if a rose bush is stripped of every single rose to make the scented oil, the bush will flower again next year. But crystals were formed over aeons of time, or under geological conditions the like of which we hope we will never see again and when they are removed from the Earth they will never be replaced. The Earth itself offers up as gifts to us some crystals, metals, precious stones etc. Where we find these washed up on the river bank, or the beach, or fallen off a cliff face, these are gifts for us to take. The Earth can even tolerate a little mining, as it tolerates some burrowing animals, but any major removal or mining operation is a violation of the Earth. The claim some people make that the crystals in the shops are a gift from the Earth is a false claim, they are not gifts but the product of a violation. Unfortunately in this modern society it would be extremely difficult to avoid all products and services which cause damage to our beautiful planet, however it is extremely easy to refuse to buy crystals. If you have been buying crystals as ornaments or for their supposed healing powers, then refusing to buy crystals will not have any adverse effects on your lifestyle at all. In fact, it is better for your spiritual development, and your wallet, to refuse to buy them. If you claim to be a spiritual healer or a spiritual teacher, and you have any involvement with crystals, then you should know that such involvement seriously undermines your credibility. If you have been selling crystals for profit, then we ask, do you really want to make your money from such an avoidable exploitation of the Earth? We know you are good people, and your intentions are good, most of you are involved in recycling, and already care about saving endangered species, and rainforests, and reducing pollution. We hope you will also care about this violation and stop being involved with it. Remember any involvement with any violation inhibits your spiritual development, and adversely affects your spiritual welfare. There was a time when people were ignorant of the damage they could do by transporting plants, animals and insects out of their own environment and into another. Now this is understood. What is not understood yet, is that even metal and mineral deposits have a reason to be where they are, and people who remove them to other places are unwittingly damaging the Earth's integrity. Removing crystal deposits for healing purposes, is like a person cutting off their own toes, and hanging the bones about their necks as a good luck charm, thinking they are more use there than on their feet. We are as much a part of the Earth as any mountain or beetle. If the Earth is sick, then to some extent we are sick too, and if the Earth dies, we will surely die. We cannot separate our own wellbeing from that of the Earth. Therefore to use a method such as crystals, thinking they promote healing, while their removal from the ground is making the Earth sick, cannot bring true healing results. We should at all times, only take from the Earth, what the Earth can afford to give, and only then what we can genuinely use for our sustenance, comfort, fulfilment and pleasure. To take more than that of anything is a violation. What then should people do with the crystals they now have? Our advice is that you should cherish them, remembering the cost that the Earth has paid for you to own them, but you should not buy more, you should not use them for healing, and you should speak out against their purchase and use. Please join the wise and the caring people who know it is wrong to call the mining of crystals a spiritual activity, and who know that crystals can't heal anything.
