Stop a minute," Sumpter said, "and look out at the view. It is lovely." Indeed it was, the rainy sky was a dozen subtle shades of grey and in the grey day lighting, the wet trees, the cars and people's clothing stood out in dense strong colours, like the colours in a child's paint box. "There are dimensions of delight available for you to experience at any time in this wonderful physical reality, no matter what you are doing, even as you hurry through a heavy burdensome day, or worry with a heavy burdened mind. You can and you should "stop to smell a rose along the way" as the old saying goes. You can cherish the beauty of everything you see, and textures, and sounds, weather and movement. And that is not all. What are your dreams like? And when you read a book, what do you do when you get to the passage about the beautiful sunset, etc, etc? It is one thing, and quite limiting enough to skip the 'sunsets' in a book, but another, more serious matter when you leave out the dimensions of delight in your experience of any reality, for they are intended to couch and support your 'trials and lessons', separating them out so you can deal with them most effectively and with all your energies and resources replenished by the pleasant interlude. Also they are an undercurrent that the 'trials and lessons' are meant to lightly ride upon, so that life need never get too worrying, too painful or too unpleasant. I suggest that from now on you take plenty of time to notice and appreciate the dimensions of delight in your physical reality, even if it is a matter of noticing the view while you are hurrying to your destination. I also suggest that you teach yourself by suggestion and imagination to do the same in your dreams, noticing and appreciating the dream environments and the people you meet there, and taking time in your dreams to look around and enjoy, time out from the activities you undertake there, and you will notice a corresponding improvement in the way that your 'trials and lessons' manifest in your life." |
