The plaque was displayed on the stage at Commencement and then hung on the right wall of the building entrance. (Footnote: The first class to graduate from Matthews High School in 1926 had six members: Alfred J. Byrd, Vanita Hicks, Elva Brooks, Mary James, Howard Mainord, and John Sells. The class of 1967 was the largest with 59 members. The 58th and final commencement was held on May 26, 1983. The class had 23 members.
