(p6) served until the High School building was rebuilt.
Neighboring high schools, text-book companies, .and state educational services were all very helpful in providing text books and other supplies. Many 'war surplus' tables, desks, and office equipment were purchased to equip the new building. School year 1947-48 saw the installation of full Vocational Home Economics and Vocational Agriculture departments. As part of their programs, Future Homemakers of America (FFA) and Future Farmers of America,(FFA) groups were organized at the school. In this rural community, FHA and FFA added much to the training of students in community service and leadership skills. Student groups from FHA and FFA competed successfully on district, state and national levels in areas sponsored by the organizations. Matthews High School was also a site for a Veterans Training Program in Agriculture following World War II. The following description is provided by the instructor, Wallace E. Waters.
