(p2)    composed of the Matthews District, Pharris Ridge District (building still stands in 1976), Warner District (located on Canalou Road at the Third Ditch), Noxall District (formerly a town two miles south of Matthews on the Frisco Railroad), White Oak District (west of Noxall), Ogden District, the oldest of the districts. That building was replaced and is, still being used as a church. The Crowe District building still stands and is still used as a church. Both Ogden and Crowe districts are south of Matthews and east of Highway 61. The Canoy District building was located on the west side of Highway 61 about 1 1/2 miles north of Highway 80. The building burned and has been replaced with, a concrete block building used for commercial purposes.
A new 3-story brick elementary and high school building was completed and occupied by the student body on October 31, 1924. In 1924-25, Mr. Milus R. Davis was. Superintendent Schools. He and Mr. Cline T. Hope taught the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. Of the thirty students enrolled. 12 were freshmen, 10 were sophomores and 8 were juniors. In. May, 1925, one week before school closing, the oldest member of the freshman class of 19251, Miss Wynette Carrouthers, married the Superintendent of Schools, Milus R. Davis in the Methodist Church. The student body was invited and all accepted the invitation to the evening ceremony. The newlyweds were greeted with a gaily decorated stairway and a shower of rice when they arrived at school on Monday morning. The following year, Mr. Davis became Superintendent of the Canalou School.
