“Will what?” Professor McGonagall asked sharply.
“Share a room with us.” Fred answered innocently.
“Yeah, it’ll be just like home.” George fervently agreed.
“Anyway it wouldn’t feel right without Kat in our room.” Fred noted.
“As long as she doesn’t get to have her hammock.” George mustered all the seriousness he could. Dumbledore grinned and turned to Katerina.
“Miss Silvermoore, is that alright with you?” She nodded absent-mindedly prompting Fred and George to exchange worried glances.
“Excellent. That’s one problem solved. Now if you would be so kind as to remain here for one moment, your Quidditch team will show you to your rooms. But first we have a problem. As you all know.” Dumbledore was addressing the Quidditch team now, “last year our sports announcer left and since she was a Gryffindor and suggested for the job by you, I felt it only right that you should chose the new sports commentator.”
“We could hold auditions for a new announcer in three days.” A tall seventh year spoke up. “Splendid Carlton, splendid. There that now takes the count to two problems solved. I won’t keep you from your beds any longer. Good night.” And with that the Quidditch team and first years left the Great hall. Lee, George and Fred made up the first row of the column of first years that followed the silent Quidditch team, with Katerina to George’s left, not joining in their discussions, but trudging in her own world it seemed. Behind them most of the girls were giggling about the good looking seventh years leading them, much to the teams and the Weasley twins irritation.
“Kat?” Fred moaned.
“What?” Both twins let out a soft gasp.
“Why didn’t you miaow?” George seemed oddly offended.
“What?” Carlton Jenkins, Captain of the Quidditch team turned round.
“It’s an ongoing family joke.” Fred replied.
“Whenever we call for Kat, She miaows.” George explained
“So you’re related even though you have different surnames?”
“Nope.” The airy tone had returned to her voice. “I’ve just lived with the Weasley’s since I was two. So what position do you play?” Carlton took the hint and allowed her to change the subject. The girls behind glowered at Katerina’s back because she now walked with the Quidditch team, allowing Fred, Lee and George to return to their plotting and scheming in peace.
“So how come you know so much magic?” Roger Benson asked.
“What do you mean?” Katerina replied innocently
“Oh come on you and your three friends are bone dry whilst everyone else is soaking wet.” Eva Ferris probed.
“And the roses from the ceiling.” Oliver Wood added. Katerina blushed slightly, but only Fred and George noticed.
“Oh that magic. Bill and Charlie taught me.” She said off-handedly.
“Charlie? As in Charlie Weasley? As in the Charlie Weasley?” Excitement seemed to ripple through the Quidditch team.
“Yes, The Charlie Weasley.” She mocked “I’ve only lived in the same house as him for nine years…”
“Three weeks…”
“And 1 day.”
“Not that we keep count or anything.” The twins grinned as they, and Lee, joined Katerina with the Quidditch team. After climbing three staircases and walking a seemingly endless corridor, Carlton suddenly stopped.
“Peeves.” He hissed. Katerina raised an eyebrow.
“Where is he?” Eva walked back to Carlton.
“Right above our heads.” Roger looked up at the ceiling and became drenched by a shower of water. An insidious laugh echoed above them. Fred and George laughed until Katerina dug her elbow into their ribs. A bucket fell from above them and clanked down the corridor. Two yellow eyes flashed in the candlelight at the end of the corridor before disappearing. Moments later a wheezing could be heard as Argus Filch emerged from behind a bookcase. He looked shocked for a moment at the sight of the group of children. The twins, Lee and Katerina smiled slyly at each other.
“What are you doing here? Students shouldn’t be roaming the corridors. I’m reporting you to Professor Dumbledore.”
“We were held back by Professor Dumbledore at the end of the start of term banquet, we’re on our way to our common room when something dropped a bucket of water over Roger’s head.” Katerina exploded and didn’t bother to breath as she ranted. Fred and George lazily grabbed an arm each to stop Katerina lunging at Filch. More water suddenly poured from above their heads soaking Eva, who shrieked in disgust much to Peeves’ delight. Filch turned his eyes upwards and shaking his left fist yelled,
“I’ll have you for this Peeves…” As he roared at the darkness the gaggle of Gryffindors slipped away from him. They arrived at the end of the corridor only to find that it was blocked and all that stood their was a portrait of a fat lady in a pink dress.
“Password?” the first years jumped back.
“Carpai di, ummm. What was it? Eva rubbed her chin with her hand as the portrait swung open.
“Oh right. Carpai dium!”
