“Fluff for brains.” Carlton tutted as Eva led the way through the opening behind the portrait and shot him a dirty look. “This is the Gryffindor common room.” Oliver announced. “You know I could have sworn it was the Slytherin common room.” Katerina looked earnest but didn’t meet Oliver’s eye. Fred and George turned away from her to stop themselves from laughing. “Girls, your dormitories are up that staircase, except Kat, whose along with the boys is through that door and up the staircase.” Carlton had stepped forward as the rest of the Quidditch team collapsed into the squashy armchairs around the blazing hearth. “That’s right lead by example.” Fred murmured. The girls began to filter through the doorway to their dormitories; some shooting Katerina dirty looks as they went. “Night Kat!” Angelina, Sarah and Alicia called to her as they disappeared through the arch. “Night.” She yelled back. She frowned for a second and shook her head. “Come on Kat.” Fred pestered as Lee and George began to climb the staircase. “Alright, keep your hair on!” She sounded exasperated but the smile on her face betrayed her. “Night Quidditchers,” She waved over her shoulder as Fred grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward the staircase. Oliver watched her leave. “So when are you asking her out Oliver?” Eva grinned at him. “What? I’m not.” “Then stop drooling. Night all.” Eva stood up and left before Oliver could respond. “If you don’t Oliver, Someone else will. Night” Roger and Carlton left followed by Richard Mason, Ellie Kool and Darren Williams. He sighed and sulked for a second. What would they know? He thought as he stood and left the common room. Upstairs, Katerina lay awake, staring at the canopy of her four-poster bed. Her bed was between Fred and George’s. Lee snored next to George and Simon Eldon tossed and turned next to Lee. “Kat, we won’t tell anyone what’s bothering you.” “Yeah, If you can’t trust your brothers, who can you trust?” “I’m alright, night.” Both twins rolled onto their sides facing away from Katerina who didn’t move. In the darkness of the room she cried silently. “Come on Kat, get up!” Fred shook her violently. She groaned and rolled over. “We’ll miss breakfast!” George pulled off her quilt, which she snatched back. “Leave me alone, bed good, outside bad.” She buried her face in her pillow. “Stop it Kat we’re serious, we’re gonna miss breakfast if you don’t hurry up.” Lee pulled the quilt clean off the bed and Kat shivered. “You can’t be serious.” She moaned as she reached for her watch. She flicked open the lid. Her eyes widened and she leapt from her bed. Hurriedly dressed and pulled a set of black robes on. “Come on. Breakfast.” She ushered the boys from the dormitory and shut the door behind her as she scuttled down the stairs. “Hurry up!” After taking two wrong turnings and climbing three staircases to dead ends the five finally arrived at breakfast. Angelina spotted them as they entered and waved them over. “Try the bacon, it’s perfect.” She greeted them as they joined them. “So Kat, how come you’ve got different coloured eyes?” Katerina looked meaningfully at Fred and George who whistled and became very interested in a candle on the teachers table. “When we were little they tried to make a brick levitate with a plastic wand. They threw it out of a window and pointed the wand at it as I was walking underneath. The brick landed on this eye,” She pointed to her yellow eye. Angelina shuddered, Sarah winced and Alicia grimaced. “I’m surprised you’re not blind.” Lee muttered with a mouthful of toast. “Hey don’t feel too sorry for her, she hit us with the fire poker for that.” It was Katerina’s turn to turn away. The other girls laughed. “Serves you right for being so stupid.” Alicia breathed through bursts of laughter. “You’d think you were practising Cheering Charms the amount of laughter that’s coming from down here.” Carlton lent over the twins shoulders to pick up some toast. “Sleep well?” “Fine thanks.” Sarah fluttered her eyelashes and Katerina rolled her eyes. “Here are your time tables oh and a word of warning, steer clear of Snape and don’t get on his bad side, he’s always looking for an excuse to take house points from Gryffindor.” He handed pieces of paper as squawking came from overhead. “Mail’s here, I’ll see you all later.” He moved down the table where the Eva, Roger and Darren were waiting for him. Owls swooped in from the openings above them. They flew low dropping letters and packages to their owners. Fazila landed on Katerina’s shoulder with a letter in her beak. She swapped the letter for toast. She glanced at the handwriting and muttered something incoherently. The letter in her hand burst into flames, which quickly burnt the letter to a crisp. “I hate my brother yelling at me, so I absolutely refuse to have him yell at me in a letter. I must get revenge on Percy.” Fred opened up his timetable and let out a groan. “What?” George hurriedly opened his timetable up and his face fell. “What?” Katerina looked at them “Potions first with Professor…SNAPE!” “Great way to start lessons at Hogwarts.” Angelina remarked dryly “That’s not the worst part.” Fred didn’t seem to want to say anything. “What?” Sarah asked slowly. “We’ve got it with the Slytherins.” George gulped “You have got to be kidding.” Alicia seized the timetable from George and Lee from Fred. |
