“What’s going on over there?” “I have no idea.” Lee said flatly “It was a rhetorical question and stop looking at me like that just because I’m an orphan.” The twins cringed. “Thanks.” The sarcasm was clear in her voice. She held up her hand to stop any apologies that were coming and started to run toward what seemed to be black dots streaming across the sky. They skidded to a halt on a large grassy enclosed area. Above them two teams were engaged in a Quidditch game, though the teams were not evenly sided. It seemed to be a match of ten verses thirteen. “Hey that’s Angelina.” George pointed upwards at one of the players who had just got hit with a bludger. “That looked nasty!” “Think we should lend a hand?” Fred cast a sideways glance that caught his brother’s eye. “Would be rude not to especially against Slytherin.” Kat chimed in. “How do you…?” Lee didn’t get a chance to finish. “There is only one person that ugly in the whole of the school, and he is in Slytherin.” She stated matter-of-factly whilst pointing at Marcus Flint. “ Looks kind of trollish.” She shuddered at the thought of trolls. The three boys grinned. “There might be a problem with joining. There aren’t any spare brooms.” George looked sly. “That’s what you think.” “Lee you want to commentate?” Kat looked at him briefly as she drew her wand. “I guess…” He sounded uncertain “Great!” Then she muttered something incoherently under her breath. Three brooms appeared in the hands of the triplets, who all mounted. Kat mumbled something again. “Say something.” She prompted Lee. “Like What?” His voice boomed distracting the players above. Lee grinned and Kat shrugged as the twins marvelled. “Why didn’t Bill and Charlie ever teach us magic like that?” Fred moaned. She raised her eyebrows and took off. The twins followed suit. Carlton met them mid air. “Glad you could join us.” He greeted them. “So are we.” George returned the greeting “Anything to repay Slytherin.” Fred added. Carlton stared mystified at the twins for a second. He glanced at Kat. “Long story, we’ll tell it later. So where do you want us?” “Well we could do with a few more beaters…” “Us!” The twins piped up. “And you could be a chaser.” “Fine with me. Lee is running commentary for us, so what’s the score?” “They’re up by 50 points, 30 to 80.” “Hey Lee, the score is Gryffindor, 30 and Slytherin, 80.” Lee nodded that he had got George’s message. “Ladies, Gentlemen and Slytherins.” He began. People from all over the grounds moved towards his voice. “Welcome to the unofficial start to the Quidditch season. It’s a thirteen a side game that is already well underway. The Slimy Slytherins lead 80 – 30, so come and lend Gryffindor your support as the rest of their team joins them and play resumes.” Kids ran and created a crowd encircling the entire pitch. “Well the Gryffindor line up stands thus. Captain Carlton Jenkins is leading the side and heads the chasers, which include Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet, Sarah Bell and Katerina Silvermoore of the first year.” Cheers went up from the crowd. “ And of the upper years, Darren Williams.” Lee held a slip of paper in his hand, which had been conjured by Carlton containing the names of those in the game. “Acting as beaters for Gryffindor are Ellie Kool and Eva Ferris of the seventh year along with Fred and George Weasley. Seeker for Gryffindor is Richard Mason. The final members of the Gryffindor squad are Oliver Wood and Roger Benson acting as goalkeepers. Oh and play resumes. Bell has the quaffle passes to Silvermoore, to Williams, nice dodge, to Johnson, GOAL! 10 points to Gryffindor.” The crowd roared “Nice play by Gryffindor! FOUL.” Lee suddenly screamed as Marcus Flint threw a beaters club that bounced off Angelina’s skull. Alicia dived and caught the unconscious Angelina as she fell from her broom. Katerina and Sarah opened a double assault on Marcus Flint that sent him reeling into one of his teammates. Lee was now screaming obscenities at the Slytherins. From his robes Flint drew his wand and aimed it at Sarah. Before he could curse her. Katerina flew in front of Sarah with her own wand drawn. “Just give me an excuse.” Her whole body was shaking with rage. Suddenly Flint didn’t seem so brave anymore. From the ground the crowd jeered him. “WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON HERE?” Professor McGonagall’s voice erupted from the far end of the pitch. A hushed silence fell on the crowd, which began to disperse very quickly. Lee stood frozen to the spot. Katerina murmured under her breath and began to land. The rest of the teams began to drift down. Alicia had already landed with Angelina; she was the first to speak. |
