Why Adopt from China?
Once people decide to adopt, the decision of where to adopt from is as unique as the individuals involved.  Each person must decide how they feel about various adoption issues ranging from the baby's sex and nationality to cost.

We considered domestic adoption but were wary of many of the issues related to these adoptions.  Since the birthmothers typically choose the adoptive parents, there was no firm timeline as to how quickly we might get selected, if ever.  We were also not interested in an "open" adoption where the birthparents maintain contact with the child after the adoption is final.  We had heard horror stories of medical issues due to the birthmother's addiction to drugs during pregnancy.  Finally, domestic adoptions are costly and were more than we felt we could afford.

Once we decided on an international adoption, China very quickly stood out.  Their adoption program is very stable, the costs were reasonable, the children are extremely healthy, and due to socioeconomic conditions, there were plenty of infant girls available for adoption (the sex we preferred).  After more research, we selected an Christian agency that only dealt with adoptions from China, America China Adoption Association.  They have since opened programs to other countries and have changed their name to America World Adoption Association.

The one resounding feeling that we have in our hearts is that we know our little Leah is waiting for us in China.  No matter where people decide to adopt from, this seems to be a common theme...they simply "know" where their waiting child is.  We have never questioned our decision to adopt from China and know that in God's ultimate plan our daughter has already been born there.  We have found the Chinese legend below well suited to our journey.
