Baby...so named as she was the youngest of the group...has lately taken on a more mature sophisticated look and no longer fully resembles her "baby days". Emma was actually not part of the original 5 girls. Another girl named Michelle Stevenson was chosen. She later left as her heart wasn't in it and she wasn't meshing with the other girls. Emma was recommended by the girls' vocal coach. Once they met Emma the other girls knew right away she was the one. Emma's sweet (but watch out!) persona won over alot of the Spice Girls' younger fans. I personally wasn't into the whole "baby" thing and like her much better now. In 1998 Emma was voted favourite Spice Girl in Canada. Emma has a sweet , melodic voice reminiscent of Olivia Newton-John's. Her voice is prominant in most Spice Girls songs as it carries and blends well with the other girls' voices. It's usually the most audible and is often used to sing the "pop hook" elements of the song. Emma released a solo album in 2001 titled "A Girl Like Me". It spawned the number one hit "What took you so long" as well as the top 10 hits "Take my breath away" and "We're not gonna sleep tonight". She released her second solo album this year (:Free Me" 2004) to rave reviews and has already 3 top 10 hits with "Free Me", "Maybe" and "I'll Be There". She also did the occasional TV presenting and performed at the Palace in The Park Performance for the Queen's Jubiliee. So far Emma, the least notorious of the bunch, has managed to grow into womanhood while maintaining enough of her "babyness" so as not to alienate her younger fans. And whereas the other girls have had their share of scathing critics, Emma has mostly been safe from attacks from the press and other artists. www.emmabuntonofficial.com favourite line from Spice World: "grab some crisps!" |
