Victoria Beckham posh spice |

Ah yes...Victoria Beckham. Easily the most well known Spice Girl at the mo, Posh along with her soccer star husband David Beckham have taken the fashion, and celebrity world by storm as "Posh and Becks". Victoria (second favourite) has not had it easy in the UK. The press revel in slagging her off. Her weight has critics calling her "skeletel spice" (mostly coming from women who can't keep their hands out of the cookie jar!), and her musical aspirations with the exception of her # 2 hit "Out of Your Mind"-- a collaboration with True Steppers and Dane Bowers) are often ridiculed. Her solo album "Victoria Beckham" is actually really good and did not deserve the bad press it got. It unfortunately came out during the whole Kylie Minogue Fever craze and as a result didn't sell as well as it should've. It did debut at #10 though and the two singles released from it (Not Such an Innocent Girl and A Mind of It's Own) both debuted at #6. Her latest single "Let Your Head Go" reached number 3 and is accompanied by a fab video parodying the movie Mommie Dearest and the whole Posh image. Often labelled by critics as "the one who didn't sing"...Victoria actually did sing (thank you very much) in the Spice Girls. Her's was the voice used when a more stylised, breathy sound was needed. It didn't stand out like the others as it wasn't as sweet as Emmas, sexy and deep as Melanie B's, high and loud as Melanie C's, and lacked the--shall we say "individuality" of Geri's. She took a more prominent role in the "Forever" album as the Pop/R&B sound suited her voice better (and somebody had to make up for Geri's absence). I like Victoria's voice and prefer it over Melanie C's who's often noted as "the one who can sing". The other girls always referred to her as the "funny one". Her self-depricating, deadpan, sarcastic wit is often displayed in interviews. It's ironic then her Posh Spice image has her pouting and looking miserable all the time! She released an autobiography called "Learning to Fly" (#1 bestseller) in 2001right before her solo album. She also hostessed a hugely successful and well received celebrity interview special called "Victoria's Secrets". Victoria's wit and banter suprised critics and demands came in for a part two. Besides facing a bizarre amount of backlash from the UK press and music scene, Victoria has always managed to look impeccable and live up to her spice nickname! Favourite line from Spice World: "Hold on to your knickers girls!!" "This dress is dry clean only Melanie!" "Why does the countryside have to be so bloody muddy!?" |
