Melanie's debut album "Northern Star" took a while to hit but when it did it managed to sell a few million world wide.  Clearly a much stronger album than her recent "Reason", it contained killer tracks like "I Turn To You", "Closer" and the lead off single "Goin' Down".  Melanie promoted the hell out this album and it paid off. It also brought her here to Canada and was a hit.  Two number one hits--"Never be the same Again" featuring the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez from TLC, and "I Turn To You", two top 5 hits "Goin' Down" and "Northern Star" and the Top 20 single "If That We're Me".
In some territories (like Canada) a different cardboard cover was placed over the above cover.  As well, the album was re-released after "I Turn To You" hit #1 with the hex-hector remix  included.
The much anticipated release of Melanie's second album "Reason" was a bit of a disappointment.  Her voice has never sounded more technical and cold, totally lacking the "warmth" of "Northern Star".  Oddly though, this time around Melanie seems to be more in love  with songs like "Let's Love", "Melt", "Yeh, Yeh, Yeh", and "Here it Comes Again".  The monochromatic design of the album fits the production and sound.  Whereas  "Norther Star" felt colourful and rich "Reason" just sounds like it looks-stark and empty.  The album was not a success and Melanie has since left Virgin Records and is in the process of developing her own record lable. She has also resorted to slagging her fellow Spices again in order for some much needed PR by calling Victoria's #3 single "Let Your Head Go/This Groove", "atrocious".   We'll see was Sporty has in store for us next time around.  It couldn't possibly be worse!
"Let's Love" was a Japanese only release.
FYI. Only 3 singles were released from "Reason " compared to "Northern Star" which had 5-two of them number 1.
