About Me

I was born in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital in November of 1976, and lived in Yarmouth County until I was six years of age. As I grew up, my parents noticed that it was taking me longer than normal to start walking. I started to walk on my own somewhere around my second birthday. After a number of tests, I was diagnosed with a mild case of Cerebral Palsy. At the age of three and a half I had to have surgery to stretch the cords in the heels of my feet, because I could not walk flat footed. Before the surgery I was always walking on my tip-toes, and was unable to walk flat-footed. I was then in casts for a while and had to learn to walk again flat footed, with the casts on. Eventually those were removed. As time went on my parents realized I had a bad arch to my back, and at the age of seven and a half I had to have the cords on either side of my groin stretched so that I could stand up straight. I can now walk reasonably well. (It takes me a little longer with steps, hills and rough terrain, but I live as much of a normal life as I can.)

When I was a child, my family moved from Yarmouth County to Lunenburg County. We ended up living in that area for about 6 years. While there, I attended Mahone Bay Consolidated School. My father was the Meat Manager at a couple of different grocery stores in Bridgewater. While we were living in Lunenburg County, I had a chicken farm with 36 chickens which laid eggs that I cleaned and sold to other people in the area. When I was around the age of 12 or so, we moved back to Yarmouth County, where most of our other relatives were living at the time. In the late fall or early winter of 1988, my father opened his own business in the county. My sister and I would end up working there for a number of years as we grew up.

As for school, I returned to Plymouth school and attended grades 5 to 8. As time went on, I attended high school at cole Sainte Anne du Ruisseau(also known as SAR) and graduated from there in June of 1996. While I was in grade 10, I had surgery on my foot to correct a mis-shaped part of the bone, in order to stop me from getting blisters with every new pair of shoes. That high school has since closed and cole Secondaire de Par-en-Bas was built to replace it. After graduating high school, I then went to Burridge Campus (Nova Scotia Community College) and took the one year auto mechanics course that they offered. Not being able to find someone to hire me in that field of work, I went back to working at the family business for a bit.

At about 1:45 A.M. on August 25, 1997, the Wedgeport Fire Department was called out to the local Petro Canada Gas Station cause of a very serious structure fire. The gas station ended up burning to the ground, and as a result, my father installed gas pumps at the store a couple months after wards. I worked at and sort of managed the gas pumps for about a year and a half. Then during the 1999-2000 school year I attended classes again at Burridge Campus, taking the BIT (Business Information & Technology) course. In June of 2001, I completed taking CSMS (Computer Systems Management & Support) at Burridge, and then worked full time as a customer support representative with Register.com from June of 2001 to September of 2005. In the Spring of 2004, I was named the Municipal Volunteer of the Year by the Argyle Municipality. I attended a ceremony in Halifax where I was given an award by Premier John Hamm. I then had to make a presentation at a dinner that was held at the Club in Surettes' Island. Click here if you want to see photos from the presentation in Surette's Island.

While I was working at register.com, I was also working part-time in the evenings as an after-school supervisor at cole Secondaire de Par-en-Bas. After leaving register.com, I remained working at the school for some time, and also had a few other part time jobs. I worked nights at the Rodd's Colony Harbor Inn as a janitor for about 7 months, before being laid off. I worked part-time as a cook at the Boston Pizza restaurant in Yarmouth from April of 2007 to January of 2008. I then started working at Novi Boat Brokers full time, as a data entry person. That is where I am currently working.

One thing about me is that I enjoy volunteering with various organizations. When I'm not working, I'm either home watching television, working on my computer, or attending some kind of volunteer related meeting. Check out my work history page for more information about my past and present volunteer activities. As you may be able to tell, I like to keep busy. Below is a list of things I am currently involved with. (Most recent activities are at the bottom of the lists.)

I have not included this web site in the list.

  • The former version of this website had a number of images of myself and other things in my life. In an effort to make this website look more professional, I have removed most of those images and details. My apologies to any friends that may have come to this website looking for any images that may have been here in the past.

One thing that I have kept here for my friends and family is the quarterly newsletter that I have on the site. Please note however that the format has changed slightly to accommodate the new layout. Click on the season below to read the newsletter for that time frame.
