 Tour Diary

This is probably the destination of most visitors. My work takes me all over the United States for about ten months at a time, encountering adventures of all shapes, sizes, and states of strange. Rather than inundate friends and family with mass e-mails, I publish my thoughts, observations, and experiences on the road here. Choose an adventure and come with me!

Work Information

Job Title

Tour Coordinator for GMR Marketing and the ALLTEL 'Are You Connected?' Tour. I travel around the country to major events and, with the help of my four crewmates, play games and entertain the public while showing off the best of ALLTEL's products and services. There is a mix of physical labor, pr work, and massive amounts of travel involved here. Flexibility, enthusiasm, outstanding taste in music (required for quality road tripping), and the ability to lift heavy objects are key.

Key Responsibilities

Play hard, drive often, lift heavy objecs, and become a telecommunications guru!

Hot List

 www.volunteermatch.org

This site will assist you in finding volunteer work anywhere and everywhere! If you feel fortunate to have all that you have (and as an American you most definitely should), give a little back to others! In light of September 11, I know we all feel a new sense of family and a shift in priorities. Let’s put those feelings into action and work to defeat oppression in all its forms, at home and abroad.

 www.heifer.org

No, this is not a weight loss group. Heifer.org is an organization that organizes ‘charitable giving for sustainability’. Originally, the program gave a heifer (female cow that has never given birth) to a family as a source of food, income, and self sufficiency. In turn, the family must give the heifer’s first female calf to another family in need, and so the cycle continues.

 www.frenz.com/neilfinn

www.nilfun.net

Neil will always make my list of favorite sites simply because he is Neil Finn. His simplicity and heartbreaking beauty will always keep me coming back for more. One of the few men in the world who can make me cry and jump for joy in the same sentence. Check out his music and discover him for yourself.

 www.ricksteves.com

Internet home of Rick Steves, European Travel Guru! He hosts a travel show on PBS which my entire family enjoys, in addition to publishing a small library of travel guides and other related material. I brought Rick (or his guidebook rather) along with me to Italy last January and it is now the only book I’ll consult on travel to Europe! Check out his website if you are infected or are feeling susceptible to the travel bug!

www.u2.com

In the past few months I have rediscovered this Irish band and love them now more than ever! They have captivated me with their honest lyrics and soulful sounds. They have become a favorite on the tour this year, especially the remixes. Anyone who uses their fame and abilities to do some good in the world is worth supporting; luckily they’re damn talented to boot.

Biographical Information

I am a 26 year old from Michigan, USA. When I was younger, I was timid, softspoken, and afraid of almost everything. How things have changed. In the last five years I have attended and graduated from Western Michigan University with degrees in Marketing and French, traveled and worked in New Zealand and Australia for 16 months, and returned to the States to explore the nuances of unemployment for a while. I am now working with an excellent event marketing company that has currently asked me to tour around the country promoting telecommunications. No I cannot hook you up with a free phone.
