The Descendants of Haskell Korach
and Lena Klein |
Haskell Jakob (Yecheskel)
Korach was the son of Leib Korach and Rachel Pollak. He was born
1823 in Siroka and died 9 May 1919 in Siroka. In 1847 he was
married to Lena Klein, daughter of Yakov, (Jacob Klein). Lena was
born in Pecsujfalu (Pecovska Nova Ves), died 15 July 1912, not too
long after their 65th wedding anniversary. He was a farm
manager in 1869. Later he owned a tavern. He was over six
feet tall. After Lena died, Haskell was reluctant to take
long trips, since he wanted to be buried in Siroka next to his
wife, although Clara Weisz Waldman remembered him coming to visit
her mother in Kassa in his 95th or 96th year. He married his
housekeeper, Lena Engelman, in 1915, after his wife died, since he
felt it would have been improper to share a house with a
woman. At age 96, he was pushed down by Hungarian officers
in Siroka at the end of World War I, and died shortly after.
