The question to ask yourself is... "Do I want a professional magician or an amateur magician to entertain my guests?"

No one expects to pay the same amount for a professional magician as you would for an amateur magician.  If you want a professional magician then expect to pay a professional fee.  If you hire an amateur magician then expect to pay little to nothing.  In other words...

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

At the same time, you should expect different fees for different styles of magic (i.e. close-up, parlor, or stage).  In other words, when considering hiring a magician for your event or restaurant you definitely want to compare apples to apples.  Compare...

** A professional magician to other professional magicians
** An amateur magician to other amateur magicians,
** A close-up magician to other close-up magicians,
** A parlor magician to other parlor magicians, and
** A stage magician to other stage magicians.

Also, realize that some magicians may focus on just one style of magic while other magicians may focus on one or more styles.  Though there is NO GUARANTEE, some magicians may offer a discount off their regular fees if you hire them to perform more than one style of magic or for multiple hours.  Again, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE.

Within the close-up and parlor magic you may not find such a wide descripancy between fees unless you are comparing a professional with an amateur.  However, among professional stage magicians you may find a wide range of descripancies.  Why?  Because, they may have animals and or assistants in their act, they may provide their own sound system, special effects, curtaining, and so-forth, they may have more noteriety than the others (i.e. a celebrity magician like David Copperfield versus a local Houston stage magician), they may have more illusions in their shows than others have, and each of their shows are simply different than the everyone else's show.  Therefore, the more entertainment value a magician brings to the table the more you can expect to pay.  Again...

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

But no matter what, whether you are hiring a close-up, parlor, or stage magician, you should expect to pay a professional fee for a professional magician within each of those categories.  Some magicians will charge a much lower fee in order to undercut the professional magicians and or to just simply perform at your event.  That may be fortunate for your pocket book but it could be UNFORTUNATE for your event and guests.

Why?
Because, you may not receive the professional entertainment that both you and your guests so richly deserve.  Consider this...If you were going to hire a celebrity actress or sports player to appear at your event you would expect to pay several thousand dollars and possibly even millions just to have them show up.  However, for an actress from the high school drama club or a high school football player you would only expect to pay litttle to nothing for them to show up.  You also would not expect them to bring as much entertainment value to the table either.  Why?  Because they are amateurs.  The same is true with magicians...If you want a professional magician then you should expect to pay a professional fee.  Anything less means you will get less.

So, when you are considering hiring a magic entertainment ask yourself...

1) Do I want a professional or an amateur to entertain my guests?
2) What style of magic entertainment (close-up, parlor, and or stage) do I want for my event,
     restaurant, & so-forth?

Above all else, remember...                        YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
