Simply Sandi's travel trailer tutorial |
Don't forget to save often, this is a pretty long tutorial, you might need to empty your clipboard or history if you find yourself crashing. There are a number of selections, so when I say load a selections I won't say "go to selections, load from disk", each time, that is what I mean, OK. 1. When I say flood, that means floodfill. 2. When I say bevel, that means inner bevel unless I specify different. 3. We are using a silver gradient for the gradient unless I specify different. 4. When I say delete, I mean to either click delete key on keyboard, or click the scissors. 5. Putting everything on a new layer enables you to move things around and make changes later which is what I usually do, however you can put some layers together, so I won't always tell you to add new layer, I will leave that decision to you.I have tried to put the selections in order, but you are at liberty to move things around when we are done. My tutorials are just guidelines, make this your trailer, and above all, have fun with it. Close each layer before adding a new layer because we are going to want to duplicate a few things as be go along. I will try to remember to let you know when you need to duplicate. 1 Open a new image 350 x 350, add a layer (just because), and close it. Go to selections, load from disk, and load 1a_tongue and flood with gradient, innerbevel using "little" preset but change depth to 2, OK. Add layer, load 1b_tongue, flood with gradient, use same bevel. Close these layers if you haven't already done so. 2. Add layer, load 1c_tire, flood with black (I made a gradient with dark grey and medium grey for mine), selections, modify, contrac 5, flood with white, selections, modify, contract 2, flood with black, selections, modify, contract2, flood with gradient. Load 1c_tirecutouts, click scissors or hit deletekey. Add 1_tirecenter, flood with gradient, use same bevel, deselect, drop shadow I used these settings, V & H -1, opacity 100, blur 0, deselect. ok. Close these layers if you haven't already done so. 3. Add layer, load 1d_trailerbody, flood with color of choice, bevel using little preset, new layer, load 1_fender, flood color of chice, use same bevel, same drop shadow. deselect Close layer 4. Add layer, load 2a_furnacevents, flood with gradient, on same layer load 2b_furnacevents, dropshadow , use same but change opacity to 100. deselect, resize 75%, be sure all layers NOT marked. Duplicate this layer and move next to original layer to the right. close layer 5. Add layer, load 2_door, use little bevel,(color makes some difference, when I made a white trailer I had to do some more shadows) add layer, Load 2c_door_window, flood with white, contract 2, invert, delete., effects, bevel, use round preset. Deselect. Add new layer, load door_windowblinds, flood with white, deselect. Add layer, load 2c_doorwindow, flood with a glassy looking gradient. I made my own using white for foreground, and background set to #E9E4D1, set gradient to fading foreground, flood.. Use one of the door knobs I provided or make your own for the door, it should go on the left side, mine is wrong. Make sure you have all the door layers open, make one of them active and merge visible. Duplicate the layer and move one of them to the other end of the trailer. Now close this layer 6. Add layer, load 2d_largewindow1, flood with white, ok, on same layer load 2d_largewindow2, flood with white, ok, on same layer load 2d_largewindow 3, flood with white, effects, drop shadow, V & H both 0, opacity 100, blur 2.5, ok, on same layer, load 2-dlargewindow4, flood with white, effects, bevel, use round preset but change angle to 0.On same layer load 2d_largewindow(I got this selection out of order), flood with a glassy type gradient, I used the same one I used for the door. Deselect. (If you want to put stuff like cabinets and dinette behind the window in the trailer, don't do the drop shadow and add a layer below this layer) 7. Duplicate the window layer, resize 75%. This is the small window, move it most of the way to the right. close these layers. 8. Add layer, load 2f_brace, flood with gradient, bevel, use round preset, drop shadow V & H 1, 100 opacity, blur 0, black. On same layer load 2g_brace, flood with gradient, bevel, use round preset, on same layer, load 2h_awning, flood with gradient or color of choice and bevel with round preset. 9. Add layer, load 4a_fridgevent, flood with gradient, bevel using round preset, deselect, and duplicate this layer. Place these on the roof where you like them. 10. Add layer, load 4b_roofvents, flood with gradient, use round bevel preset. Deselect. 11. Add layer, load 4b_plumbing roof vents, flood with gradient, use round bevel preset. Deselect. 12. Add layer, load 4d_aircond, flood (usually white, but you choose) use round beveel, change depth to 1. Set selection tool to rounded rectangle, deselect. Add layer, make a smaller rectangle on the air conditioner, flood with white, go to effects, texture, blinds, set to width 1, opacity 49, horizontal marked, black. Deselect. Duplicate once or twice and move them so they show. 13 Add layer, load 43_antenna, flood gradient, use round bevel preset. Deselect. 14. Add layer, load 5b_sparetire, flood color of choice, bevel using round, change depth to 1. Deselect. 15. Add layer, load 5a_propanetank, bevel duplicate & move so both show. Deselect. 16. Add layer, load 5c_frontawning, flood color of choice, bevel using little. Deselect. 17. Add layer, load 5d_lights, change floodfill to rgb value, fill top 2 lights with red, fill lower with yellow, use round bevel (need to set floodfill back to none or won't be able to fill multiple spaces). Deselect. 18. Add layer, awning, flood with color, bevel round but change smoothness to 50, shininess to 25, angle 0. Deselect. If you save now and keep this you can change colors later. We are finished, all to do is open the closed layers, merge visible, and tube. |

This tutorial was conceived 9-2001, but it has taken me nearly a year to get it in a form to use. This tutorial was place on this webpage 7-22-2002. As usual, my tutorial are written for your enjoyment and may be used as you see fit. I would love to see your results, but not necessary. Simply Sandi(sandisuetoo) |
