Note:
Some of the Compiled Service Records of this unit call it a Cavalry Unit and also Mounted Infantry, which was General Chesnut's original plan. It is called "2nd South Carolina Cavalry Battalion, a unit which never existed. There is no indication that they were ever mounted by the State. They were however highly "independent" and are often hoted only as indiviual companies, especially Company F. listed in most sources only as Captain Kay's Cavalary Company. This battalion also violated General Chestnut's "orders" many members are from Greenville and Spartanburg counties. The Spartan Rangers' members are listed in both 1st and 2nd Battalion.
