PEEWEE C was where I started...Cam Neely Arena in Maple Ridge.  I played my first year with some of the nicest/tolerant 12-year olds boys who took care of me.  The following year, Maple Ridge pioneered an all-girls team (phew!).  I have never played on a team with such spirit & determination to have fun despite our not-so-inspiring record.  After that season, I played in BC's Best Ever camp in Osoyoos and came within the last cut of making the BC Team.

After playing Bantam & Midget with the boys, I went off to Wales and took a 3 year break from hockey (no hockey in Wales!).  In 1999, I started skating again and played with Coquitlam's AAA Womens Team, the ROCKETS.  What followed was a heart-breaking and physically painful year of concussions (X3) which forced me out of hockey completely for a year and a half.

Now, facing the reality that I could possibly never play competitive hockey again, I am just thankful and grateful that I can finally step back on the ice & enjoy the game again.  In fact, although my close friends and family still roll their eyes at this, I'm back playing rec hockey and LOVING it!!  So far, only a very painful separated shoulder and other trival injuries, but praise God no 'real' head injuries!!
**Oct 2004 =4th concussion (flag football), ?5th shortly after (vball), PTL after resting for a couple of years, I started playing VERY rec hockey again for the '06-'07 season!!!
-Never buy a used helmet.  Try to get a helmet that fits your head well and wear a mouthguard.

-If you do end up with a concussion, follow the strict guidelines before returning to play. Don't mess with a head injury.  Email SFU's Concussion Lab at: concussed@sfu.ca

-Also, since you already have one, enjoy the recovery process and learn from having to live one minute/day at a time and appreciate what really is important in life.

-Sorry, I'm not good enough to pass on any hockey tips.  Check out the links though!

***EXCITING/IMPORTANT NEWS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE***
I'm excited to promote the Vancouver Christian Athlete Hockey Camp, July 27- Aug 1, 2003 at Trinity Western University.  Come check out this awesome live-in camp where NHLers
will be instructing!

If you're looking for an unforgettable, FUN, hockey camp which instills
CHARACTER, FAITH, INTEGRITY & DRIVE, then this is it!

Girls camps are also available!!  I totally recommend this as I was an HMI girls camp counsellor in 2001 and saw what an incredible time my campers had.
