MY LIFE STORY: |
My life has been one BIG on-going ADVENTURE! Thanks to the creativity, patience, sense of humour & grace of God, I wake up most mornings inspired to live life to the full. However on those unfavourable un-inspired mornings, I can be quite the zombie. Good thing for God's hand of mercy & His uncomprising redeeming love...I can't live without Him, can't walk this road alone. Come anguish, hurts, concussions, failures, victories, I will stand unwavering in my trust in His faithfulness. My God who makes the seemingly impossible soveignly possible. So I will move, run, skate & play to the tilt as the Potter moulds me into His choosing. |
" He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken." Psalm 62:6 |
Born in SINGAPORE |
Yes, I was born in Singapore, September of 1979. Grew up there till I was 9, when Dad decided to immigrate to Canada, where according to Dad, men take their hats off to ladies...:0) Anyway, in Singapore I grew up in Normanton Park, a residence comprised of a few apartment blocks dedicated to military families. Most people ask me how much I remember of Singapore...ALOT. I remember being thrown into the big pool at 4 by Dad who saw that I was already swimming in the baby pool. I remember walking out of the residence pre-school all the way back home, much to the surprise of my mortified Mom. My favourite memories are from my primary school days in Fairfield Methodist School...classes were fun, Girls Brigade even better, but the real excitment was the cafeteria (canteen) food...it rocked! Other sweet memories are from kayaking and biking in East/West Coast Park with my family; visiting Dad at his X-Ray military parade mock-ups (especially hiding in the dark/processing room when the President showed up for a demo); eating at hawker stores; Paulman's birth and playing with my TWO brothers. |
Growing up in Maple Ridge, BC |
Feb 20th, 1989 is the day we step foot on Canadian soil. Dad got his rain boots wet 6 weeks earlier to 'scope-out' Canada for us. I will always be grateful to Dad who had the guts and determination to immigrate and then settle his family here. An immigrant's life is never easy, don't kid yourself. After moving from Vancouver to North Vancouver we finally moved to Maple Ridge where I'd say I truely 'grew up'. It still remains my 'hometown'. I have many fond memories of my growing up years in Maple Ridge: our house, our yard, the attempts to flood (& freeze) the patio for our mini ice-hockey tournaments, the Whippoorwill Street Hockey League, Thomas Haney Secondary, the psycho piano/violin/trombone lessons/exams, candy striping, my start in ice hockey playing PeeWee C, church...the list goes on. |
Off to Wales, United World College of the Atlantic (UWCAC) |
AC '96-98. It remains the BEST 2 years of my life. During my grade 11 year in Maple Ridge, I somehow received a United World College Scholarship to study in Wales. There, over 75 countries were represented, and I lived and survived the Welsh weather with my dear, dear, roommates, friends & F5ers from all over the world. Talk about GROWING UP QUICK! Homesickness was my first and most challenging foe for the first 6 weeks (thanks Mom for keeping up with my daily 35min calls!), but what followed was an inexpressible period of building intimate friendships, understanding who my God is, & living and spending till the wee hours of the night with friends of different perspectives, backgrounds, convictions, and cultural roots. I will never be able to articulate just what those 2 years meant to me and just how much it has shaped & influenced me. I was stretched beyond measure, challenged beyond belief, & will never forget my roommates, housemates, houseparents, schoolmates, teachers & counsellors who shared their lives with me in Wales. I am also indebted to my Welsh church/link/rotary family who cared for me in every possible way while I was there. They truely were my security, my warm, loving, feeding, tourguiding, ear-lending, guidance-giving support. Of the many bizarre things I did in college there, these few are truly my favourites: -Fan Danced for a Chinese dance (?!) -'Coastguarded' for Her Majesty's Coastguard Search & Rescue (including free falling 3m during a training session and injuring my back) -climbed Snowdon during very windy weather -camped alongside sheep and their excretions in the Welsh hills -not sleep for the last 4-5 days straight of AC |
At SFU |
I've JUST graduated from SFU's Kinesiology program!!!!! To date I"ve worked at Karate BC and as a Research Assistant in Dr. MacKenzie's Human Motor Systems Lab at SFU. Along with being the 'crack stuffer' for a BIG research grant application, I assisted grad students in the areas of Human Computer Interaction (the Enhanced Virtual Hand Lab) and Spatial Misalignments in Endoscopic Surgery. I also had the priviledge of doing my own undergrad NSERC project. For more information about publications/research, contact me. THEN, For the past year and abit I was involved in the crazy world of research in Dr. Goodman's Human Behaviour Lab studying 'Concussions in Ice Hockey Players'. There I created and administered a 'Concussion Knowledge Questionnarie' at the 2002 BC Winter Games in Quensel, BC. Currently, we are working on educational interventions such as webgames.... At SFU, I was involved with Campus Crusade for Christ (Bible Studies, Praise Band, etc...). My favourite past-times were wandering the AQ and taking unscheduled but meaningful 'chat-time-breaks' with friends. I never used to procrastinate!! Darn it. Between being lost in the beauty of the BC mountains near the 'pond' and keeping an eye out for my kid (genius) brother on campus, I (used to) sometimes be found (not sleeping, I hope) in the Kinesiology dungeon. |
KIDZ Rules!!! SUMMER 2003 |
I was working full-time at Faith Baptist Church as the Director of Children's Programs during the summer of 2003. I was SOOOO excited about this as I finally got the chance to dive into the world of kids! This summer had particular meaning for me as I came to know Jesus thru kids camps at the age of 5. As well, it is was incredible opportunity to spend my entire time making (I hope) a difference in the lives of individual children. I pray that we were able to impact and influence an entire generation. I absolutely LOVED this ministry...we were witness to God doing AMAZING things!! I love you all, kids!!! I miss you soooo very much!!! Check out our SUMMER CAMPS website for more info! Although I worked at Faith I actually attended Willingdon Church! I LOVED it there...download sunday music, sermons etc....from our website!!! |
In the fall of 2001 I embarked on what was to be one the most profound experiences in my life. Next to my time in Wales, I think this jarred me in ways that I will continue to discover even years after the experience. Check out my Nigeria email archives or web page for more details. I LOVE Africans and Africa!!!!! In the summer of 2004, as a first year med std (surgery elective) & SIM Short-term missionary (again), I experienced one of the most life-changing, jarring, and intense trip in Angola 2.5 yrs post-civil-war. CURRENTLY |
Believe it or not....I am actually now in my LAST 8 months of formal medical training!!! I'm in my 'PGY 2' year in Family Medicine at McMaster University. I had an incredible start to this year by wandering up to Yellowknife, NWT, (which is WAY up North!!) for July & August learning/practicing 'rural' medicine. It was truly an awesome 2 months of meaningful time spent dwelling with God and 'resting'. I am still having 'the time of my life' as I write this short update back home in Dundas, Ontario. God, You are beyond wonderful and merciful!? I eagerly, joyfully, and hope-fully chill/pray/fling myself/read/await God's blessings this year! When I'm not at work, I can be found reading one of my many books; playing with different bands (African/Congolese - Scott Orr - Worship at Philpott Church); engaging in ministry (esp Marketplace Ministry), eating; running, biking; spending time with friends; scheming events/happenings; travelling; cooking; answering emails; sleeping, &/or spending chat times with family. |
