Hamster Hoarder
About My Hammies
About My Hammies
Shirli was the smallest of my robos. Small but aggressive. She suffered three injuries. The first was so bad that I didn't think she would survive (injured eyes, injured legs, etc) but survive she did! But I couldn't put her with the rest anymore. She even bit her sis, Pepsi. In August, I received ten more robos, five males (Bubbles, Baxendale, Bam Bam aka Old Bam Bam, Brownie aka New Bam Bam, & Bobo) & five females (Salt, Peppa, Pebbles, Seiko and Yuki), albeit at a different time but they were all from the same parents. I keep two robos to a cage (anything more than that and they start to get quarrelsome, hamster politics, aarrgh!). Shirli and Old Bam Bam has since been given away.
Recently, I got another male robo (he's called Soupy and he 's our best looking robo ever!) as a mate for Mindy since Mork has been separated from her since they are siblings.
I have been keeping hamsters since I was a kid. Hamsters kept included syrians, campbells, winter whites and roborovskis. I'm just a hamster hobbyist but can't seem to stop hoarding more and more hamsters. Yes, I've been called a hamster hoarder. I can't get enuff of them, keke...

I got my first two robos (Mork and Mindy) in July 2001. They came along with a big fat winter white call Hiddy. A week later, I got two more robos (Pepsi and Shirli). Then a fren gave me another male robo called Brutus. (he's my fave male robo). Hiddy soon had a campanion called Happy. They mated in double quick time and Happy gave birth to six little babies. Happy and the kids are no longer with us now, but the last I heard, Happy has given birth to another two babies. Way to go, Happy! Now back to the robos...

I've also just received four winter white hammies. An adult pair, pearl winter whites and two little babies, a normal coloured one (Ebony) and a pearl coloured one (Ivory). I'm going to find home for the adult pair. The little ones are kept with Hiddy and they are getting along just fine. Phew! (Just a little update, I've found homes for the the adult ww, as well as the babies. Yup, little Ebony and Ivory have been adopted. I didn't have much of a choice as Hiddy was starting to hump them, aarrgh!...well, hope they are happy in their new homes).

Tips!
Hamsters go nuts over unshelled nuts! I don't buy expensive pieces of chewing wood for hamsters. I just get a pack of unshelled nuts from the supermarket for less than $4, and they will be chewing at the nuts, wearing down their teeth and having a great meal as well. They love it too!
I learnt this from a little girl. To crack some big tough nuts, open a door, put the nut between the hinges, and close the door! My syrians can crack an almond nut in one minute by themselves!
