Mrs Widgery's Lodgers is the oldest continuous Order in the Unseen University. The University was formed in AM 1282 by Alberto Malich. Arguments rage about when exactly that was, I believe, (because I read it it somewhere) that this was about 2000 years ago. The aim of the University was to regulate Wizardry which, at that time, was in chaos.
Not all Wizards could be put up at the University, because at that time it was so small. The great Mrs W stepped in and offered accommodation to the young wizards who were studying at the University and so the Order of Mrs Widgery's Lodgers was founded.
