This month the three pictures below are featured. - The top picture shows a long shot complete with semaphore signal and Flying Scotsman arriving at Strathroy. -The second picture shows a close up shot of Flying Scotsman at Strathroy Of note is the two-tone Triumph Herald parked to the right of the station building. -the third picture shows the train eaving Strathroy. The coach behind the double tender is the BR Mk1BSK in Pullman livery with a Pullman type name on the coach side. With various information form the internet and online contacts, Geoff Chandler has been making further enquiries regarding the Devon Belle Pulman car no.13 which according to a contact in Calgary of Andrew Hopkins, is very much in service today on the Paignton and Devon Railway. Car number 14 was still in use as a static dining room annex to an Athletic club in San Francisco a few years back. |

News At our Novmber meeting, Richard Hobby presented paert two of a video about the GM built Cl66 locomotives that we started to watch at the October meeting. The second half took us from Canada to the UK, where training activities were illustrated and a cab ride on a Bin-liner train from the London suburbs to Bedford was shown. The Midland Mainline ws busy with HST's in Midland Mainline livery as well as ThamesLink and suburban traffic observed as we travelled through the North London suburbs and on to Bedford. We welcome a new member to our group, Mr John Nicholas from the Hamitlon area. John has been involved in model railways for the last three years and indicated recently that the hobby is far more challenging and complex than it appears John anticipates being able to attend our meetings from time to time. Les Torrens As members are aware, Les Torrens was able to sell a fair amount of his railway equipment prior to his death. Recently Dorothy Torrens contacted our president, Geoff Chandler, with a request that the Buffers be approached with a view to disposal of much of the remaining items. Geoff Visited Dorothy prior to the last meeting and was able to report to the members, generally what was available. He is plesed to announce that as a result of the information given to the club that Dorothy was able to sell the EFE buses and trucks as well as the bound volumes of the modelling magazines. However there is still a large amount of OO models remaining. See list. What remins is of a specialised interest, being mainly Southern Region 3rd rail equipment. Most of the trains have been professionally painted / repainted and could be of interest. Some members of the club may allready be aware that Les was developing a G scale layout in his basement and this still remains for the family. In this connection, Les's son John has finshed the engine shed and tank car that Les was working on prior to his death. The engine shed haas been beautiffuly finished with a cedar shingles roof and really looks the part next to the turntable. Model News A recent BBC news report regarding Hornby Railways sales have more tahtn doubled for the six months prior to the end of September. Due to outsourcing, the build and quality of the models has improved. The aim is to attract customers and reduce younger customers that are targeted by computers and video gamles. Our December meeting will be held on the 9th at the usual Elliott St. location, 1300 - 1630. As in the past members are asked to bring a modest amount of seasonal fare. Please bring any of your own video material, slides or recent modelling projects for discussion. |
