Here are afew pictures of the trike, as it stands today, Jan.27, 2006. The above is a shot from the side.

Above and below are a couple of shots from the rear. My favorite rider got in the bottom picture. She thinks she has to ride anything that rolls. even down to the lawn mower. If I have both trikes out she goes crazy trying to be near whichever one she thinks I am about to ride. Sometimes I have a ball just with her.

You can see the dog house scoop on the rear. I had to add this when my generator went out. I had not left enough room to get it out the back. I had to remove the fan before I could get it out. I also decided I might not have enough room to remove the engine without taking the fan housing off, so I cut out the rear and added the scoop. I needed more room for the carburator anyway. It was too close to the top for me to add a breather, now I have room for that.

Here is another shot from the opposite side from above. You can see the gear shift which I am still experimenting with.I only have a primer coat on the trike so I can ride it and make changes to it as I go along. I went to try and register it yesterday and I was told I had to have the title to the VW that the rear end was made from???? I could use the bill of sale for the front end. I asked the lady, How would you register a trike made from new parts, as I can order all the parts brand new. She replied. let me ask someone else and get back with you. I have the bill of sales on all the components and pictures along the way. Will keep you posted as to what transpires. You would think Tennessee would have it down pat by now.

Well I finally got her registered. I had to talk to 2 more people at the state level before I found one who knew what to do. All I lacked was an affidavid of ownership,(showing I had made the trike from scratch). I now have a Tennessee license plate. I have decided I want to make me a stack exaust. I am using this piece of 5 inch cut off from a diesel truck.

Here I have the stinger that came on the exaust and the stack I am using for the new tip. I first cut out a plate to fit up into the 5" stack and cut 4 holes to fit over the headers. I welded this up into the stack about 1/4".

The above two pictures are of the tabs I welded onto the bottom plate, that I welded into the stack. I added 4 of these so I could bolt the stack onto the headers. (These bolt onto the points where the springs attached for the stinger. This stack gave me a deeper exaust sound but was still too loud to pass inspection. (Or so I thouhgt) I don't know if this is a factor with the state or not.I didn't want to take any chances.

I decided to make me a baffle system to put into the stack to help keep down the noise. I took some sheet metal and cut 4 round disc, into which I drilled 5 3/4" holes. The 5" stack inside diameter, is the same as a CD outside diameter. This made a good thing to draw the circle from.

I then drilled a 5/16" hole through the middle of each disc and threaded them onto an all thread rod. I spaced them out to fit the stack, and lined them up so the holes in one disc were offset from the other disc below it. I added a cross piece so I could screw this assembly to the sides of the stack. I decided I needed a flap to keep the rain out of the system. I built a bracket and attached it to the 5/16" rod and bent a hinge to attach the flap onto.

The shots above and below, show the finished product. I still like some balancing on the counterweight on the flap, but this is how it will look when it is all over. It has a good mellow deep tone, not the loud sharp pop the original stinger had.

What this does as far as a tuned exaust, I have no idea as I am not an engineer. I know the principal of a tuned exaust, but I haven't figured out what makes a tuned system for the VW. I just like the sound and the looks. At least it is something different. I have a son who is a truck driver, so I get all kinds of ideas for lights and truck stuff. ha
Thats it for now. Thanks for dropping by. Check back later to watch the progress of the building of this, my second trike. It is about over, paint job and a few things here and there. I am still working on the first trike I built. Check back to see the final color, it will be a while.
