GOD HAS A SON

ANYBODY that professes to be a Christian will, of course, agree with the title of this article. It is a foundational precept in Christianity.

The incarnation, ministry, teaching, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is what the New Testament is all about. If you remove the Son there is no Christianity.

Thank God that there is a Son. It is through the death of that Son that redemption was purchased for whosoever will come to him in true faith. It is through his resurrection that we have hope that we shall be resurrected to everlasting life.

Who was this Son? To know him is imperative. The Bible defines the Son as his only begotten Son. John 3:16

It, also, says that his Son was made of a woman. Galatians 4:4. It even says that there was a specific day that he was begotten. Hebrews 1:5.

What have we learned so far?
  1. That the Son is a begotten Son.
  2. That he was made of a woman.
  3. That he was begotten at a specific point in time.

Now, a begotten Son is not an eternal Son. The Bible never calls him an eternal Son.

He was not a Spirit Son, rather, he was made of a woman that was impregnated miraculously by God. And because his mother was impregnated by God that made Jesus the human Son of God.

The Son was not a God born as the Son of another God. The Son was not a second person of a holy trinity. Nowhere does the Bible refer to Jesus as God the Son. But, he is called the Son of God, which is very different. The Sonship is a human Sonship.

That human Son had a unique and special relationship with God, the Father. It was so close that the Father literally dwelt within his Son. John 14:10-11 and II Corinthians 5:19.

The scriptures tell us that God was manifest in the flesh. I Timothy 3:16. Because God was in Christ, because the Father was in the Son, because the Eternal Spirit was in Christ, Jesus said in John 14:7, that when we see the Son we have seen the Father. He said this because the Father was in him, and because the Bible calls him the image of the invisible God.

See Colossians 1:15, Hebrews 1:3 and II Corinthians 4:4-6.

Some will ask, if the Son is a human Son, why do some scriptures refer to him as God? It is because Jesus, the Son, was the human, physical manifestation of God. The Son was the human vessel in whom God dwelt.

That is why the Bible says of Jesus, For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law.”— Galatians 4:4
