United Federation of Planets

A union of a large number of planetary governments and colonies, founded in 2161. The purpose of the UFP is to ensure mutual trade, exploration, scientific, cultural, diplomatic, and defensive cooperation. The Federation is comprised of over 150 member planets and is spread over 8,000 light years. There are a number of criteria a planet must meet in order to be admitted to the Federation, and member planets must agree to grant their citizens certain rights and privileges. The Federation Council dictates policies, and is made up of representatives from the various member planets. A President is in charge of the Council, and his office is located in the city of Paris on Terra.

United Interstellar Press, Inc. (UIPI)

A major news agency with offices in several star empires including the UFP, Klingon Empire, Gorn Alliance, and Cardassian Union. The headquarters of this agency is at London, UK, Terra.

The Winding Path

A form of Aebrynnian scholarly and magical craft in which the adept must constantly arouse not-well-understood powers in order to observe and come to understand their implications for nature and reality, as well as their contributions to the magic and the magical families of Aebrynnis. Often, the sorcerors of the Winding Path are strange, and even made, creatures, and many have come to a bad end. The last great sorceress of the Winding Path, rose against the Council and she and the majority of her devotees were killed in a magical war 100 years ago.

Yanek, Campel

Romulan Ambassador to the UFP poated to the Knight, and a skilled surgeon who placed himself in the service of the Medical department of the ship. It was later revealed that he was a member of the Tal Shiar, the Elite Romulan Imperial Intelligence service, and that his real name was Jerrakar. Captain Bridger took him back through time during the "Lost Ones" story line.
