- Machine in the Machine, The
- Massive holosim programmed by WO Marie Foucault. It expands upon and replaces some of the extensive computer systems aboard the USS Knight. It represents a real step forward in programming and simulation, and Foucault is planning to publish research articles about it some day.
- Makafin, Bran
- Actual Venn name for the man long called Bran McMuffin.
- Makova bread
- Bajoran foodstuff, interesting unleavened bread with a slight minty taste.
- Maphane
- A Bolian, CONN Specialist on the Knight (NPC).
- Marine Marksmanship Examination
- This name is a misnomer. This examination tests the will to kill, in addition to tracking, shooting, and judgement of a Marine trainee. It is conducted in difficult environments, and under adverse training conditions. Howell Bridger completed the MME successfully, but was unable to take the killing shot, and was therefore washed out of training two days before 'graduation', in December 2369. (See also Starfleet Marine Corps and Starfleet Departments)
- M'Benga, M'Botha Brian
- Director of Starfleet Intelligence's Psychological Warfare division, Admiral M'Benga was stationed on the USS Knight for Operation: Freewheel. Afterwards he and most of his field team have transferred to the new Space Station orbitting Dunnin's World and, more recently, to Terra.
- Montenegro, Gabriel
- From Neponsett, currently leader of the Marine Rapid Response Team on the Knight. More information may be found in his Personnel File.
- Morgan, Joel
- Terran, Navigation Systems Specialist on the Knight (NPC).
- Mundat
- A Bolian, CONN Specialist on the Knight (NPC).
- Mutara Nebula
- A large nebula in which tactical systems and sensors seem to malfunction. It is a vast place, and is dangerous if attempting warp speed while within the nebula.
- Neutron Cannon
- A secret UFP weapon based on the extrapolations of the Starfleet Sciences division after study of the burnt-out hull of the so-called Doomsday Device, which was damaged and nearly destroyed by the USS Enterprise in 2266. The Neutron Cannon was developed as an ultimate weapon of warfare in the 2350s, and tabled as an unethical technology of warfare, since its most likely use would be the destruction of whole planets. In 2369, BuWeap dusted off the plans for potential use in a Borg Killer-type of ship. However, the possible use of the new classes of starships against Borg Cubes made BuWeap abandon the Neutron Cannon Battlecruiser. Somehow, the plans fell into the hands of the Combine, which has manufactured at least four of these devices. One has been destroyed in the Battle of the Fisher King in 2375.
- Nonvoi, Dr. Zaia
- A Betazoid, current Chief Medical Officer on the Knight. More information may be found in her Personnel File.
- Park
- This is one of the major pleasure and recreational planets of the UFP. It was discovered in 2267 by the USS Enterprise, a computer-run world in which telepathic machinery would read the minds of persons and generate their desires in the form of solid holographic environments. Virtually the entire planet is laced with the equipment for this, in 20 different central zones, each with a deserted underground city. The UFP has long stationed a permanent science base there, and has leased major portions of the world to entertainment concerns, while keeping Sections 1 and 13 for training and Starfleet R & R purposes. This is where the Knight trained from November 2376 to February 2377.
- Party Girl
- WO Marie Foucault has been designated, by ship's vote, official Party Planner for the Knight, late during the stay at Dunnin's World. She has challenged others to take the title of Party Girl away from her.
- Psi Band'h
- This is a headgear created by the Sciences department of the Knight, and elaborated by Ensign Krystal Band'h and by others in Starfleet Sciences. They are used to hide the psi signature of a being, and to prevent telepaths and empaths from 'reading' the person wearing the Bandh. Since the psi senses cannot identify a wearer without touching it, the wearer is in part immune to directed telekinetic attacks. However, the PsiBand'h itself can be attacked, if the telekinetic realizes that it has no defensive abilities.
- Psionic Medicine, Directorate of
- This is a newly created directorate (2377), with Vice Admiral M. B. M'Benga directing it. It has a mandate to provide biomedical research and care services dealing with species with psionic abilities, and intervening in affairs as a result of psionic practices deemed threatening to other, non-psionic, or weaker psionic, species and worlds. The first field office of the Directorate was established in 2377 on the USS Knight, under newly promoted Captain Korani Korisse of Bajor.
- Psi Sensors
- In late 2374, Starfleet selected the Knight to carry the experimental sensor suite for what came to be known as the Psi Sensors. These sensors detect characteristic patterns of psionic activity above baselines, and can determine, at range, which form of psionic activity, and the degree of capability, is being demonstrated, in accordance with the M'Benga Extended Psi Scales. The Psi Sensors operate on an extended subspace frequency not normally used for sensors or for communication traffic. They are not useful for fine determinations, and can not be used to locate non-active psionic individuals. Apparently, they also cannot detect certain species with some form of psionic talent, such as the Little Ones. The Psi Sensors on the Knight can pick up things to about 500,000 light seconds (about 100 billion miles).
