Chapter 349

Guardian Mercury lost sight of the CIA agent in the explosion and instead leapt off the building as quickly as he could. He landed on another rooftop. He noticed Guardian Earth leaping towards the ground. He assumed to try and catch the agent, though he couldn't tell. Maverick and Sailor Saturn leapt to the rooftop.

"How did they get through without us noticing?" Gmerc said.

"They came from below so quickly," Maverick said.

"Oh..I see," Gmerc said.

Their communicators went off.

"We've got company down here," Guardian Saturn said.

A horde of enemies were emerging from the remains of the building.

"Wonderful," Gmerc muttered. "This is getting annoying."

"It wasn't already?" Maverick asked.

The three launched a barrage blowing the enemy forces to the ground.

To their shock a massive dragon of fire rose from the building's remains.

The three all looked on in surprise, before regaining their determined expression.

"MERCURY FRIGID TSUNAMI!" Sailor Mercury shouted from the ground below. Energy flew out from her and into the dragon, half of it disintegrated, the other half swung down towards the three scouts on the rooftop.

"Saturn Blade of Galaxies!"

Guardian Earth also launched an attack.

The two swept upward and smashed into the dragon, knocking it off balance, it fell onto several buildings setting them aflame.

"Mercury Devout Revenge!"

"Saturn Dimensional Revolution!"

The blasts smashed into the dragon causing it to shout, but also rear up and lunge at them. Three leapt off the rooftop as it came down and destroyed the building.

"MERCURY AQUA RHAPSODY!"

The next attack smashed into the dragon's head. It growled.

"It didn't have the same effect," Sailor Mercury said hurriedly scanning the creature with her computer. It charged her. Guardian Jupiter and Guardian Saturn leapt forward pulling her out of the way. The street caught on fire. A mass of enemies swept down it anyway.

"Geez...a lot of you aren't there?" Guardian Earth muttered racing forward and slicing through them with his energy sword.

The other scouts hid behind another building.

"So what's the deal on that thing?" Maverick asked.

"It's very powerful, we weakened it severely, but it seems our attacks now are not that effective," Sailor Mercury said.

"What if we just blasted it with water," Guardian Jupiter said.

"I'm not sure that would work," Sailor Mercury said. "It's a different form of energy."

"We can beat it though," Guardian Jupiter said."Right?"

"Of course," Maverick said.

Guardian Earth hurried up.

"Did you get the CIA agent?" Gmerc asked.

"Yeah, I tried to hide him somewhere safe," Guardian Earth said.

The dragon roared.

"Like such a place is possible," Earth said.

A group of enemies went charging down an alley towards them, Gmerc and Maverick leapt forward and knocked them to the ground with their swords easily.

"Let's do something!" Guardian Jupiter said.

"Maybe if we hit it all at once," Mercury said.

"There's an idea," Maverick said.

"Good thinking," Gmerc said. "Let's go."

The eight charged out of the alley. The dragon swooped towards them.

"Mercury Ice Storm Blast!"

"Saturn Dimensional Revolution!"

"Mercury Devout Revenge!"

"Saturn Blade of Galaxies!"

"Jupiter Star Inferno!"

"Neptune Deep Submerge!"

Earth's attack flew out as well as sword blasts from Maverick.

The attacks slammed into the creature and blasted it's head off, it collapsed and the street caught on fire.

"Mercury Bubbles Blast!"

"Neptune Deep Submerge!"

The two attacks swept along the street and put out the fire.

"What kept you Neptune?" Maverick asked.

"Someone had to fight the army of smaller monsters off didn't they?" Neptune asked.

"I suppose," Maverick said.

Another small army of black minions jumped at them.

"How many of them do they have anyway!" Maverick shouted angrily as the scouts fired back.

The next morning at a hotel.

"Authorities won't comment on what caused the fire down in the warehouse district last night, but it suspected that it has some connection with the British Embassy bombing. The police are still looking into supposed paranormal activity involving the group known as the Sailor Scouts," the newsman reported.

Ayeka turned the tv off.

"That's just great," she muttered. "We're being blamed for this."

"The world is a paranoid place. They can't trust us. In a way I don't blame them," Amy said.

"Yeah, well...I don't like this, what are we doing wrong Amy? They're ahead of us at every step."

"They are a very formidable enemy."

"But how are they this formidable?"

'I don't know."

"I wonder if Earth there isn't still working for them on the side."

"I don't think he'd betray us," Amy said.

"But do you know for sure?"

"No, besides, wouldn't Hotaru sense something amiss?"

"Maybe," Ayeka said. "Still, they've managed to counter every move we've tried to make."

"It is discouraging," Amy said.

"That's your word for it?"

"Well..I.."

"No, no, it doesn't matter," Ayeka said. "Still my first real mission with all of you and it's turning into a complete mess."

There was a knock on the door. Michiru walked in.

"Happy bunch here," Michiru said.

"What's there to be happy about?" Ayeka asked.

"We're still alive," Michiru said.

"Thanks for the news," Ayeka said.

"Now..now...we shouldn't let this get to us too much," Michiru said.

"Michiru it is a very annoying problem," Amy said. "They're just aren't any clues to follow."

"Have they found the CIA agent yet?" Ayeka asked.

"No, he disappeared after the battle, but on that note the guys and Hotaru have all gone off to get some answers," Michiru said.

"And how are they going to do that?" Ayeka asked.

"I didn't think to ask," Michiru said.

"But what could they be doing?" Amy asked.

UN headquarters.

"Now anyway as I was saying," Ambassador Churchill said. "The UN must take definitive action now to deal with these rogues!"

"I quite agree," the French ambassador said. "They are running wild over this city probably in an attempt to intimidate us no doubt."

"Hah...you'd run at the sight of a pitchfork," the ambassador from Madagascar remarked.

"How dare you!" the Frenchman said.

"I'm from Madagascar, what can I say?" the ambassador replied with a grin.

The doors swung open, there was a great commotion as a group leapt in the doors and bounded down the steps.

The group all looked in shock.

"Well look who's here," the Japanese ambassador said with a grin.

The four Guardian Scouts and Sailor Saturn stood glaring at the group.

"Thought we'd save you the trouble of sending the blue helmets after us," Guardian Earth remarked.

"To be honest, you wouldn't have a big enough army to catch us, but anyway," Gmerc said. "Ambassador Churchill I presume," he said staring at the diplomat.

"How dare you burst in here," Churchill said. "After all you've done. Destroying my consulate and causing all this damage!"

Gmerc sighed.

"Ambassador, if you don't want your consulate to explode, I suggest you don't rig it with explosives," Gmerc said.

The assembled group all began talking among themselves.

"That's preposterous, do you have some sort of evidence?"

"No," Gmerc said. "However, let me put it this way. If we destroy something, it doesn't explode like a bomb."

"What?"

"It's true," Guardian Saturn said. "Most of our energy forms are non combustible."

"But you have scouts that employ fire!" Churchill shouted.

"As I remember it, you have a picture of three of us leaving there, correct?" Guardian Jupiter asked.

"Yes!" Churchill shouted.

"And which three would that be?" Guardian Jupiter asked.

"Well one of them isn't here, but you two!" Churchill said.

"Yes, but you see," Jupiter said. "You can't prove that our fire using scouts were there that night."

"So what were you doing there anyway?" Churchill said.

"Probably finding out why you would rig your office to explode I'd gather," The U.S. Ambassador said.

The crowd stirred.

"You should be neutralized," the french ambassador said. "For all the damage you've caused."

"You're jealous because you haven't won a war in two hundred years," Guardian Earth said.

"Scouts you obviously came here for a reason," The Chairman running the proceedings said. "Now what is it that you're here for."

"We came because we have been attacked," Guardian Jupiter said. "Criticized despite the fact that we defend this planet and it's people."

"I haven't seen you defend anyone, all you've done is attack," Churchill snapped.

"Appearances can be deceiving," Guardian Jupiter said.

"We have on record all the damage caused by scout battles," Churchill said. "Billions of dollars worth!"

"Yes, well, we don't work cheap," Guardian Earth said.

"Cut out the jokes," Gmerc hissed.

"Are you forgetting that to have a battle we must have opponents?" Guardian Saturn asked.

"Well..I supposed you must, but still.." Churchill said.

"And let me ask you, if there is a war, and two sides are fighting over a building, and one side blows it up. Is it the other side's fault?"

"That's not the issue here," Churchill said.

"Besides, we have never seen your opponents," the Chinese Ambassador said. "As I remember.yes...it was you..."

The Chinese Ambassador stepped forward and starred at Gmerc before glancing at Sailor Saturn.

"These two attacked our base without provocation!"

"Your base was a prison camp!" Gmerc said. "You treated your prisoners terribly!."

"They were spies!" the Chinese Ambassador snapped. "Spies sent by your government!"

The crowd broke into argument.

"Do you see?" the Chinese Ambassador said. "They admit attacking foreign soil."

"We are scouts, we defend humanity," Sailor Saturn said. "National borders are unimportant in the pursuit of life."

"Be realistic," The Ambassador said seconds before Saturn's scythe was leveled at his throat.

"Reality has changed," Sailor Saturn said and drew the scythe away.

"SEE! Look at the violence!" Churchill bellowed.

"Scouts, you must understand what a complex issue this is," the Chairman said.

"We understand the complexity," Guardian Saturn said. "However, understand this. There is an enemy out there, causing pain, and we have to stop them, and we do it the only way we know how."

"That's right," Gmerc said. "If it means being considered villains by certain interests, so be it, but the people of Japan know our service. We'll be back."

The scouts walked out of the chamber and hurried down the hall.

"Someone stop them!" Churchill shouted.

"With what?" the ambassador from Madagascar asked.

A few minutes the four were blocks away.

"So did you sense anything?" Guardian Saturn asked.

"Yes," Sailor Saturn said wincing. "Sorry, the pain..but...yes, I believe we can move ahead. I have learned a great deal."

"I'm sorry, I didn't want to hurt you," Gmerc said.

"No, I understand my responsibilities," Sailor Saturn said.

"Well that shook things up didn't it?" Guardian Earth asked.

"How can you see this as a game?" Guardian Jupiter snapped.

"I do what I have to,"Guardian Earth said.

"So now what?" Guardian Saturn asked.

"We get the others," Gmerc said. "And then..I don't know."

"I have some ideas," Guardian Earth said.

"Enough with your ideas," Guardian Jupiter said.

"What's a matter, don't you trust me?"

"As a matter of fact....."

"Not now," Guardian Saturn said. "We shouldn't fight each other."

"Even if there is good reason?" Guardian Jupiter asked.

"Well.." Guardian Saturn trailed off.

"MERCURY ICE STORM BLAST!"

The attack went shooting through the hotel lobby. A group of dark enemies were vaporized.

"It's not like them to attack us outright like this," Maverick said. "I mean they're showing themselves to us."

"Maybe we scared them somehow," Sailor Neptune said.

"By doing what?" Maverick asked.

"You got me," Sailor Neptune said.

The two unleashed more attacks sending innocents scurrying for cover and blowing more of the enemies apart.

"You'd almost think they knew we were split up," Sailor Mercury said.

"Maybe they did," Sailor Neptune said. "But these forces of their's are really pathetic."

"They must be softening us up then," Maverick said. "For some larger enemy."

"Hmm..maybe you're right there," Sailor Neptune said. "Let's keep our attacks down to a minimum."

"Leave it to me," Maverick said and leapt into the fray, slicing and cutting the enemy forces down one by one as they swarmed around her.

Mercury pulled out her computer.

"I'm not picking up anything, but the last time they attacked from directly below us."

"There's no guarantee they'll try that again," Sailor Neptune said. "Mercury we should get out of here though, if they were to blow up this building hundreds could be killed."

"You're right," Mercury said and the two hurried to the doors. "Come on Maverick!" she added.

The three hurried out into the street. Police cars were already pulling up.

"All right scouts, give it up!" an officer shouted.

"Like that's going to get them anywhere," Sailor Neptune said.

The black monsters raced out of the hotel and charged the three.

Maverick leapt back into it and attacked the group.

"Uh oh.." Sailor Mercury said.

"What?" Sailor Neptune said.

"Up there," Sailor Mercury said.

The two looked up. A massive bird swept towards them spitting energy balls at them. They dived out of the way. A massive crater formed in the street.

"There's our surprise," Sailor Neptune said.

"I wonder why they're only sending one at a time," Sailor Mercury said.

"Good question, but it's the wrong time to try and find out," Sailor Neptune said.

The bird launched another energy ball from high above them. They ducked it.

"We have to get above it somehow," Sailor Mercury said.

"That'd be nice, but while we're getting above it it's probably blowing something apart," Sailor Neptune said. "Watch it, I'm calling the others."

She pulled out her communicator.

"Any of you there?" She asked.

"Be there in a second, we already know what's happening," Guardian Saturn said.

"We're pinned down," Neptune said.

"We know, we've got a plan," Guardian Saturn said.

"That's fortunate, what is it?" Neptune said.

Another energy ball flew at them. They ducked it.

"Hold on.." Guardian Saturn said. The bird flew upward. A massive barrage of energy flew from an office building and hit it. The bird veered off course and smashed into another skyscraper before sliding to the ground.

"Let's go," Neptune shouted and she and Mercury leapt over the damaged ground. The bird slowly started to rise.

"MERCURY FRIGID TSUNAMI!"

"NEPTUNE DEEP SUBMERGE!"

The attacks flew out and blew through the bird. Another barrage flew from the skyscraper above. The bird let out a shout and disappeared.

"Well..so much for this just being our fault," Sailor Neptune said.

A few minutes later.

"Sailor Pluto, how nice of you to call," Sailor Neptune said.

"So not only do you break into the UN..you also fight a giant bird and destroy a great deal of property in the process?" Sailor Pluto asked.

"Well..all in the cause of justice right?" Neptune asked with a calm smile.

"So true," Pluto said. "Are you getting any leads as to who's behind this?"

"Yes, we're about to follow up. We did a little telepathic spying earlier," Neptune said.

"That's good, because the diplomatic situation is getting out of control, the fact that you're fighting these giant monsters on the streets of New York is not helping."

"The enemy is unpredictable, we don't know exactly what force is behind them. They don't seem to be that powerful, but they do have a habit of being annoying and keeping us from learning too much," Neptune said.

"Yes, well I'm sure you'll figure it out."

"How are the other scouts doing by the way?"

"They're not fighting giant monsters, but there are other problems."

"Oh..like what?"

"Don't worry about it," Pluto said. "Keep me posted."

Neptune smiled slightly.

We really look like idiots over here don't we? She thought.

"This dress?" Serena asked.

"No," Raye and Lita said.

"How about this one?"

"No," the two said.

"Uh..well what then?" Serena muttered.

"How would we know?" the two replied.

Serena sighed.

"Guys I asked you to help me pick one out for the pageant."

"Serena you should make up your mind on your own," Raye said.

"That's right," Lita said. "If you want to show your love for Darrien, how can we help you pick it out?'

"Guess you're right," Serena said. "I didn't think love could be this hard."

Lita and Raye glanced at each other.

"What do you mean?" they said in surprise. "After all you've been through."

"Yeah, but that was just annoying, not really hard," Serena said.

The two glanced at each other again.

Mike and Mina were headed down a relatively vacant street. Yaten was staring at the ground dejectedly.

"What's eating you?" Mina asked.

"What do you think?" Yaten replied.

"No idea."

"Mina, how can I take dating you seriously when you're not taking it seriously."

"I take everything seriously."

"Sure you do," Yaten said. "So how is it you're still holding out hope that Mike will somehow prove to be the better man or something?"

"I never said that, I just believe in the spirit of fair play."

"Fair play has nothing to do with this," Yaten said.

"Oh come on," Mina said. "If you love me, you just have to prove it."

"It just doesn't work that way," Yaten said. "You also have to prove you love me."

"Well that's all part of it," Mina said.

"What?" Yaten asked.

"Do I have to explain this again?" Mina muttered.

"You didn't explain it the first time!"

"Oh? Sure, I did, I must have, or maybe that was to Mike, I don't know."

Yaten sighed.

A car slid up beside the sidewalk.

"Mina, we need to talk," came a voice. Mina turned.

"Miss Coral?" She asked in surprise.

"Yes, get in," Coral said.

"But.." Mina said. "I'm on a date."

"I know, but it's important," Coral said.

"Okay.." Mina said. "If she says it's important it must be."

"Whatever," Yaten said.

Mina got in the car and it drove off.

Yaten sighed.

Why do I put up with this? He thought.

And in the car.

"So what's this all about?" Mina asked. "I mean..why would you need my help?"

"Well, you know Mina that's an interesting question," Sylia Coral said.

"What?"

"Mina it's not that I don't like you a lot or anything, but I'm afraid I have to let that slide now."

"What are you talking about?"

"Well essentially I'm kidnaping you."

"You're what? Why?"

"That'll all be explained."

"But, someone saw me get into your car, how can you get away with it?" Mina asked.

"Who's going to believe that the former Prime Minister kidnaped a girl?"

"Well..uh...I...they might!"

"That's a chance I'll take."

"I can't believe this, this is insane.."

"Yes, well that's what happens sometimes," Sylia Coral said. "Sailor Venus."

Mina looked at her in shock
