HERE'S A RELIABLE, CHEAP AND EASY TO BUILD FUEL TEMP SENSOR
The temperature sending unit on a VW is small enough to fit in the head of a bolt. The threads are a 10 M 1.
They only cost $10 new but you might as well get one, when you
salvage the part it is mounted in, from a gas VW. If you are going to salvage one, only 1981 and newer had the temp guage sending unit. The exception seems to be; the German made VWs had temp guages is some earlier models.
I use the same factory guage to check the fuel temp or the engine temp
My hand is holding the vacuum line. It is connected to the injection pump useing the double banjo bolt, shown on the salvage page. This is usually where I put the temp sensor but chose a vacuum guage for this spot, this time. The VACUUM GUAGE tells you if the lines or filters are clogged or are beginning to clog. It actually shows you alot of things. It won't work on many diesels like the Mercedes but I consider it manditory for VW diesels.
