1.2 - Champaign, Rain, and Emotional Pain

Two pictures: a girl in her mid-teens crouched in the corner of a dirty underground subway bathroom, surrounded by an organized array of syringes and drugs on the floor; a lonely disheveled 30 year old man on our subway car handing us a neatly typed letter detailing his currently unsuccessful search for a woman or life-long companion, and desperate plea for a response from any woman who might be interested. Regarding this last picture, we still have intentions to actually write this man, since we have his address, and give him a little taste of the Life-long Companion and Saviour we have who can satisfy us more than any human. With the first picture...all we can do is pray for her and all those like her that are enslaved to the world of drugs and pain.

Off to the Staatsoper to see a ballet! During intermission Dana ventured, for the first time in her life, in order to gain the full experience of being in a posh atmosphere, to purchase a glass of champaign. When the bell rang indicating that *hic* we should return to our spots, we *hic* fought over the last drops. Don't worry, we didn't get drunk - with student budgets like ours we could only afford one glass! (You know we're kidding.)

News Flash: Young kids are carelessly playing with fireworks outside our
window, lighting these things too close to a car for our comfort. So as we
run for our lives and hit the deck, we bid you 'fare well'.

Hofburg, the winter palace in the city, held too many attractions for us to see or write about. We visited the museum of ancient instruments, battle armor, and an archaeological Ephesus display. During our entire visit several men in black seemed to be following us everywhere we went! Dana felt a little ridiculous wearing the large earphones that picked up music and automated commentary through the musical instrument section, but enjoyed letting the earphones hang from her neck with the music blasting for all to hear! Then vhot?!!

The next day led us to a beautiful park known as Staadt Park, where the statues of Schubert and Strauss stand. It was after our time in this park that we caught a glimpse of the painful reality that exists even in the beautiful city of Vienna.
