6.2 - Happy Skies . . . A bit shocked and over-whelmed, Dana thought oh man, will we have to spend the night in the airport?, while Becky was thinking, we're going to have to go searching for a hostel, and I'm broke. But wait...(yes, this is also a 'but wait' story!) The lady told us that our airline, Lufthansa, would put us up in a hotel for the night since this wasn't our fault. We were truly thankful for this outcome. Even so, as we had been thinking we would be home to see our families that night, and now that everything had changed, we weren't sure whether to laugh or cry. We did both as we left the desk to search for the Transfer booth where our tickets would be changed. Becky was reminded of a time a few years ago when a similar thing happened in Winnipeg where she missed her flight home and had to go the next day. (Well, she sure is becoming a pro at missing flights.) After more never-ending searches we found the shuttle bus and were driven to the posh Steigenberger Airport Hotel, where we were given vouchers for free meals! What a switch after sharing a bathroom with about 10 people at the hostel in Vienna, and a room where we were awakened at 4 in the morning by giddy, drunk people! Surrounded by classy-looking businessmen and women, we enjoyed a first class meal that night, even though we were dressed in the same old clothing from the day before. In the morning we enjoyed an all American, all-you-can eat breakfast buffet. All we could say was, Thank you God for all this food! In the afternoon, we headed back to the 'never-ending airport' in which we got lost again on our way to the departure gate. Then we were told we had to be put on standby - but not to worry. This just meant another never-ending wait. We were exhausted (to say the least) by the time we landed in TO, but very thankful to be back safely. Though it was 7:30pm, our bodies' clocks said it was 1:30 in the morning. We just wanted to get our bags, meet our families and get home to our own beds. Aha, but it couldn't be so simple. Just as we thought all our troubles were over, Dana's name was paged. At the info desk we learned that our bags were still in Frankfurt, and would only come the next day!! Well, at least WE weren't delayed again! *We'd love to hear from you, whether it's about our web site, or anything else! Email: Both of us, Becky, or Dana. We look forward to chatting with you!! When it was finally our turn, we were told... that we would be flying BUSINESS! Well, we just couldn't seem to get away from the business crowd, or from our homeward journey getting better and better! Flying business meant getting spacious seats with foot rests, our own pairs of 'Lufthansa' socks, travel toothbrush and toothpaste, personal mini t.v. screens with five movies from which to choose, juice or wine in real glasses, and menus from which to choose the dinner and snack! |
