5.1 - Yodelling Amidst the Alps We caught the bus up the mountain to the dairy village of Huemoz. For the first time on this trip Dana did not have the advantage of knowing the language, since we were now in French country (ie. Parlais vous Anglais..?). In Huemoz is the wonderful Christian study centre, L'Abri, which Francis and Edith Schaeffer started many years ago out of their home and surrounding chalets. They don't personally live there anymore. Other workers are there, however, and the facility can house about 25 to 30 students at a time. When we first arrived at chalet Bellevue we were met by a very friendly group of students, and were put to work in the kitchen to help prepare supper. (We will have, as you might know, almost 500 pictures of our 3 and a half month long trip by the time we get back home, but please don't panic! Our www.travelling-explorers.com/-europe/pics will be a condensed version of the gross mass that our lucky family and friends will have to endure upon our return. The above web address, by the way is not the actual site - the real one will be forwarded to you all once it's ready.) . . . Our first full day at L'Abri was spent getting to know the other students, studying, and gazing dumbfoundedly at the surrounding scenery. We can't properly describe the amazing beauty which we were so fortunate to experience that week, so you'll have to wait and see for yourselves on our on-line photo album. |
Yes, we have finally arrived in the Alps of Switzerland. Dana has become so gung-ho on yodelling that she already lost her voice! (Oh sorry, that was because of her cold. She's a little sensitive about her special gift of yodelling so we blame it on her cold!) From our last episode, we had been in Kandern, Germany, staying with Sharon Thiessen, whom Dana and her family knew from their Saskatchewan days. We were very blessed to have Sharon drive us on a beautiful day from Kandern (which we were sorry to leave so soon) across the border and down to Aigle, in southern Switzerland. |
