Part of a Map of the State of New York Simeon DeWitt 1802   DeWitt was for many years the Surveyor General of the State of New York.  He held this position during the formative years of the early republic when New York was rapidly expanding into the Indian lands of the central and western part of the state.  This map shows the many divisions of patents and land tracts of the early settlement period.
