Rap-core was rising quickly at the beggining of 2001. Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach as big ever. Then Linkin Park came into play. They released "Hybrid Theory" in 2000 and the video for "One Step Closer." They both were fairly big but nothing to what they would become of. Linkin Park gained more respect when they released the "Crawling" video. "Crawling" was a big hit and got Linkin Park crowned as metal-rap superstars. "Papercut" was a video only released Europe. After this Linkin Park released the massive hit "In The End." Record sales shot up and they were heavy rotation on T.V. and radio. "In The End" topped rock, metal, rap, and pop charts with "In The End." Linkin Park were famous now. The video won an MTV Video Music Award for best Rock Video. "Hybrid Theory" was an emotional album. Chester and Mike sung about thier feelings with heavy metal backgrounds. In the long run Linkin Park actually saved rap-core. In the spring of 2002 Mike Shinoda did a song with the X-Ecutioners making them big. The X-Ecutioners also preformed with Linkin Park at the MTV Video Music Awards 2001 in "One Step Closer." The band then released the animated-battle video "Points Of Authority" and released their remix album "Reanimation." The song is an industrial type song where the band tested new thing. It was remixed by Orgy's Jay Gordon. It won two MTV Asia Video Music Awards for best rock video, and best video. The album has remix's by Staind's Aaron Lewis, Korn's Jonathon Davis, Taproot's Stephan Richards, Evidance, Pharoahe Moch, X-Ecutioners and more. "Frgt/10" was the second single from the album. It was remixed by Alchmist and Jurrasic 5's Chali 2na. The song from "Hybrid Theory" is called "Forgotten," "Kyur.4.Ich" ("Cure For The Itch") is an instrumental song remixed by Chaimran Hahn. The third single from 'Renanimation" was "Wth>You" ("With You") and was remixed by Chairman Hahn again, and Aceylone. All three videos were on only avalible on-line and all videos were animated. "Reanimation" only sold 2 million albums. "Hybrid Theory" sold over 8 million copies. Both albums never reached #1 on Billboard but "Hybrid Theory" was the #1 selling album of 2001. They out sold the likes of Micheal Jackson, Ozzy, Alicia Keys, Nickelback and others who went big that year. In 2003 Linkin Park had huge buzz coming out around them about thier return. They returned with the hit "Somewhere I Belong." The song is a heavy, emotional song exposing both Mike's rapping ability, and Chester's powerful voice. The song instantly dominated rock, and metal charts across North America, and Europe. MTV put in heavy rotation. The video was nominated for a MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock video. Their fourth album "Meteora" debuted at #1 on Billboard selling over 800,000 records. "Meteora" out sold Celine Dion, 50 Cent, Norah Jones and others. It spent two week son top before Godsmack kicked them off. They are currently double-platinum. Linkin Park actually set up decoys on music downloading programs like KaZzA, and Limewire so that downloaders couldn't get "Somewhere I Belong." The second single was "Faint." The single was another big song. Right after the video was out Chester was hospitalized for stomach and back pains. He was soon released and recovered in time to kick off the Summer Sanitarium Tour with Metallica, Limp Bizkit, The Deftones, and Mudvayne. The sickness caused by a virus, also delayed video plans for "Numb" the band's third single. Linkin Park have been the Ozz-Fest Tour and The Family Values Tour. Ozz-Fest 2001 had Black Sabbath, Disturbed, Papa Roach, Mudvayne, Crazy Town, Godhead and more. The Family Values Tour 2002 had Stone Temple Pilots, Staind, Deadsy, and Static-X on it. The instrumental "Session" from "Meteora" was also feautured on the Matrix Reloaded Soundtrack with new songs from P.O.D., The Deftones, Marylin Manson, and more.
