Grant Lake is location in Yosemite National Park North of Tioga Road. Starting from the Ten Lakes trailhead, the strenuous hike is 5.9 miles long in one direction with an elevation gain of approximately 2000 ft. The pain and suffering is all worth it when you reach your final destination of Grant Lake located 9500 ft. above sea level. Backpackers camp all around the gorgeous lake.
September 1, 2001:
The lake is full of trout. You can see them in the morning until 2pm in the afternoon. There are rainbows, brooks, and browns in the water.
I caught only one rainbow trout there since I didn't have the right lures.
My brother also caught one rainbow right after I caught mine using a live
grasshopper!
Fishing Notes
Everyone I ran into on the trail or at the lake told me to use dark colored lures. The trout up there are biting on anything dark. Well, I didn't bring the right lures for this lake. The only dark lure I had was a smoked with sparkles tube jig that was too big in size. I had to cut the lead off the jig head to allow the lure to sink slower. I got bites and chasers, but it was hard getting those suckers to take the lure all the way.
Next time I will bring all dark color lures to that lake. The trout there seemed to only eat flies.
