================================= USS CHESAPEAKE (NCC-31813) Hood-Class Light Cruiser (CL) Tactical Squadron 33, Green Fleet ================================= ================================== Mission 4: Green Fleet Goes to War ================================== With the Klingon Civil War heating up, Green Fleet has shored up its defenses along the Klingon/Federation Trucial Zone, where the renegade Klingon K'Goth and his supporters have begun attacking random Star Fleet ships. The SUFFOLK, TANIKAZE, WINTERGREEN, LUNA, and NILE, among others, have already seen action near Romit-Tsae, in Sector T-23459G, where the borders of the three main powers of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants -- Federation, Klingon, and Romulan -- meet. One of the captains involved in the series of skirmishes, CAPT Elisabeth Romee of the TANIKAZE, is tapped to take command of the CHESAPEAKE to replace Daniel Brennan, who is reassigned to Green's OSFI Liaison Office as the Deputy Liaison Officer. Following a briefing by the GREENXO, RADM Pryce Mallory, the CHESAPEAKE is sent to patrol Romit-Krae, also in Sector T-23459G and even closer to the Federation's border with the Klingons and Romulans. As they begin patrol, they answer a distress call from a Federation ship and a small science installation in the nearby planetoid that have obviously come under attack and need assistance. But all is not as it seems.... ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Federation ship, the USS Tanikaze, had been attacked by Romulans while trying to protect the science installation on Serrat III. The CHESAPEAKE begins to assist both the 'Kaze and Serrat Science Station (S3) by sending out various away teams to evaluate damages and begin repair. However, they quickly realize that something was *wrong* on S3 -- the scientists are very secretive and uncooperative, and the equipment does not seem to do what they said it does. When it becomes clear that the Vulcan scientists on S3 are not Vulcans at all but Romulans who had managed to take over the station, an all-out firefight begins. The teams manage to return to the ship, but without the XO and the Marines, who had gone different ways from the rest. With communication cut off, the ship's crew desperately try to search for them, dispatching the three Ensigns to conduct a search-and- rescue. They successfully return, but not before they notice that there are two Romulan ships heading their way... plus the experimental ships they discovered inside the core of S3. The two Romulan ships had a tail on them about which they did not know -- the USS BURKE, who had gathered some intelligence and had managed to catch them on their sensors heading toward S3. The CHESAPEAKE, BURKE, TANIKAZE, and the two Romulan ships enter into a firefight. All ships take damage, the CHESAPEAKE most of all. Just as things look well for the Feds, the secret weapons of the Romulans emerge from the exploding remnants of S3 -- the Flower of Evil (tm). The Federation ships somehow manage to survive the new attack, and the Romulans retreat. However, the CHESAPEAKE is clearly beyond repair -- it can barely reach Warp 4, and the BURKE and TANIKAZE assign themselves to escort the Hood-class vessel home to SB DELTA.
