HOME: Eucalyptus forests of Australia
LIFE SPAN: 12 years
LOOKS: A Koala can weigh up to 35 pounds and be the size of a duffel
bag. The body is stocky with a little tail. The large round head has a
short muzzle, thick hairy ears, and a large black nose tip. Cheek pouches
are used for storing food. All the toes have sharp claws. The female
has a brood pouch whre she keeps new babies. Koalas are marsupials.
FOOD: Tender shoots of eucalyptus
HABITS: Koalas are awake at night and sleep during the day in a forked
tree branch. They come to the ground only when they cannot jump to the
next tree.
